Surrey Golf Course Membership

No it isn't. Several people have claimed Surrey is a large county, sorry to pick on you Wanabe! It's 35th (out of 48) when ranking England's ceremonial counties by size.
It does have a large population though (11th biggest), and more than 100 courses are affiliated to the Surrey Golf. No 'single county' union has more courses than Surrey.
So, choosing a course is hard, but not because Surrey is large - because it isn't.
It be 35th, but I reckon it can take twice as long to drive through than the ones in the top 20! 🤣

Yorkshire golf union covers four counties (N Yorks, W Yorks, S Yorks and the E Riding).
Lancashire covers three (Lancs, Gtr Manchester and Merseyside).
That's why I specified 'single county' union in my comment.
Sorry, took your single county to mean not multiple titled County Unions such as Berks, Buck and Oxon or Hereford and Worcestershire.
However, in golfing terms all the individual Unions are considered to be single entities hence the strength of ‘Counties’ like Yorkshire who have 5 or 6 times more clubs and golfers than typical Counties/Unions down here in this part of the world.

Honestly, there’s no end of options… You’re in the right place for good golf.

You can have anything you want in Surrey (except for links golf!) so it may help if you give us some hints of what it is you want from a club?

Competitive golf, monthly competitions? Scratch team golf? Great array of club matches? Social? Country club vs members club? Heathland, Parkland?

You will almost certainly need to wait 1-5 years at most of the ‘better’ courses and membership is likely to be £3k+ with £3k+ joining fees at those clubs.

If you didn't end this with your tongue sticking out at the screen I'll be very disappointed. It's how I imagined it 😝

I read that not only is Surrey the most densely wooded county in the country, but also 2.5% of all land is turned over to golf courses. That's a huge amount for such a small, densely populated county.

Isn't that a little presumptuous or have you played them all?
Played a number in Surrey, but you only have to look at the Top 100 Golf Courses website. Camberley Heath is ranked 20th in Surrey, 79th in England. Only 4 Yorkshire clubs are in the England top 100, 6 from Lancashire.

Some of the rankings of these best of lists I find very puzzling.
I know they judge on 'overall experience' but I was much more in line when the standard was the best 18 golf holes/ course layout and not how it now appears to be as nearest to the quirky old high street/adjacent nice hotel/ close to home/lively city break etc.
IMVHO I have played many Surrey courses and quite a few courses seem to be highly placed because they are 'in Surrey'. ;)

All the top reviews are still 90% based about the course and none of it based on the nearest high street or hotel etc

I think Surrey courses are rated so highly due to the courses themselves, not just the experience of going to them. They are mostly on undulating ground in the sand belt, with tall pines and heathland. You can't really beat that combination for inland golf, we don't have any courses like that in Kent. Chart Hills and Knole Park are the best inland courses here, but for completely different reasons. The only real issue in Surrey is affordability as far as membership to a lot of courses is concerned.
