Is your club your local club?

I have a few within 5 miles but mine is the closest at around 1.5.

Joined it because of its reputation and quality of course. Have not been disappointed.

Mine is about 10mins from home, there is another a further 10mins away but it doesn't have the same welcoming atmosphere so a no-brainer really

Less than 10 minutes away, 5 minutes with a clear run, I've travelled further and now wonder why I did when everything I ever wanted was always on my doorstep, live & learn!

2 mins by car for me, the closest course to me. They knocked me back 15 years ago when they had a 10 year waiting list, just had to wait 3 months this year to be accepted, how times change. Will be getting my money's worth when next season starts for sure.

That wouldn't be Whitecraigs or East Ren would it?

Mine is less than 10 minutes away, but even closer are Dundonald, Western Gailes and Glasgow Gailes, Royal Troon is onl 15 minutes away.
We are really spoiled for golf courses here :whoo:

I have 3 course that are around me, about 15 minutes each. Brampton is where I'm a member as its the better course IMO, if I wasn't a member at Brampton, I'd consider St Ives, its same distance just a different direction...

Some good courses a little further out that id consider like Gog Magogs or JoG, but don't think I'd enjoy it as much driving as much as 40 minutes for a game.

No, not closest to home. I get a better package of options heading slightly further afield but it's all still within a 15 minute drive.

Mine is 5 mins drive away, but it would have been the club I joined anyway. No other club within 25 mins drive that I would even consider apart from Woburn, but not really an option for me.

I have three within 12 minutes of home, closest 10 minutes, 2 at 12 minutes. Been a member of one and left to go to one of the others. I have been a member of a club 30 minutes away and that simply didn't work for me. 15 minutes would be max.

current club is 15 mins away but am changing clubs in the new year ,its a few miles further but still only 15 mins drive.
there are clubs close to me ,
East Sussex National
Piltdown
Lewes
Crowborough Beacon
all very good courses

I was a member at my local club( 5 mins away) for 8 years, secretary for 2 years, but left 18months ago & joined a course just under 15minutes away.

I have the same dilemma every year, about renewing my membership, my club is the nearest club to me (about 5 mins away) unfortunately it's only a nine hole course and there are a couple of 18 hole courses within about 15-20 mins drive away.
What I am wondering is how many of you are members at a club that is not your nearest?

I am, my nearest one is pretty much a 10 min walk away (Whitstable and Sealsalter Golf Club) only a 9 hole but has two tee positions so plays 18. Another 18 hole course (Chestfield Golf Club) about 5 min drive away, really nice course and very challenging, but a bit short.

So I am a member of a course about a 15 min drive away.

Mainly because it's a bit of a longer course and has a nice Par 3 course, the fairways\greens in my honest opinion are a bit better kept than the others too. Having said that, its a very very busy course if you play in the afternoons\twilights.

There are 11 clubs within 30 minutes of my house, three of them are quite prestigious, seven of them are just normal golf clubs, and one is just a pay and play.

I used to be a member of a club that was 30 minutes away, and it was a main reason for me leaving. I didn't like the distance, and I started making excuses not to go. The course was OK, but not my favourite, I never took to any of the other members, and the course was shut an awful-lot at weekends, due to invitation-only and open comps on the weekends, so the free weekends were swamped with other members like myself, who can only play at the weekend, thus it was nigh-on impossible to get a round. It really was a club that suited weekday players much better than weekend players, so all the things above, combined with the distance made my decision for me.

I joined my nearest club, which is 15 minutes from home, 5 minutes from my grandparent's house and 5 minutes from work, and it's the best thing I ever did, golf wise. The location for me is perfect, I can pop on after work, visit my grandparent's, and I don't have to worry about being far from home.

Not got a massive selection near me. My current club, Belton Park, is probably the closest and is a 5-10 minute drive now. Stoke Rochford is maybe 15 minutes and the 9 Hole Sudbrooke Moor is about the same. Belton Woods is 10-15 minutes away. My club is the closest but I would drive up to 20 minutes-half an hour for a better option.
