GM Top 100 - a year in....

Last November I got the buzz just looking at the Top 100 list. I read a few comments here on the forum and found a lot of people keep it as a checklist to tick off against.

I decided to do the same and as I'm only in my 30's I'm quite optimistic I can clock up at least half in my golfing lifetime.

1 year in, and I've got 10 ticked off.

12 Royal Liverpool (Hoylake)
33 Burnham & Berrow (Championship)
35 Saunton (East)
44 Royal St David’s
48 Notts
52 Alwoodley
60 Moortown
61 Saunton (West)
80 The Belfry (Brabazon)
92 Sherwood Forest

Of this list, only Royal St David's and The Brabazon have not been played this year. Notts and Sherwood, being local have been played this year and previous years.
Dropping on Royal Liverpool this week has been a highlight and absolute bonus!

So, how has your progress gone this year? Ticked many off......

Why do I look at this post and think Panini stickers?

got, need ,got ,got , need, need badly, got......

For the record I have "collected" less than 20 of the Top 100 list :o

I have been lucky enough to play 27 of the courses that feature in our Top 100 this year including two that were new to me, Nairn and Close House (which takes my overall tally to 81 of the 100). Thoroughly enjoyed those two and indeed all of them. We're so lucky to have such amazing courses that unlike the US ordinary golfers can pay a green fee to play

I don't know why you bothered with that one, very overated:rofl::rofl::clap:

I stopped bothering with these lists when they put North Berwick in front of Gullane No1.
....As for B&B if it was a Scottish course it would not make the UK top 200. It is the only half decent links course in the entire south west of England, hence its status.

Memo to self......stop posting on these annoying lists.

Obviously everyone does but when I play a course I don't judge it's quality by how much it has cost me. Don't confuse quality with value for money, they are 2 very different things. If you want to rank a course by price then Silloth would be the clear #1 in the GB&I

I am not a rich man so value does matter to me. The price has to be fair.

Played Sherwood ( my nearest course) on a freebie this year and could of cried.
it was late March and the weather was gorgeous, one green was 1/10th frozen so all greens were temp.
there was hundreds of mats everywhere. We all would of walked in after four holes if it was not free.
Desperately disappointed.

I don't go looking to play "top courses" despite playing over 120 courses only 6 are on the list.

For the record I have added one this year.

I'm doing top 100 in England as UK is just not feasible for me. In up to 42 I think, this year I knocked off -

Notts, sherwood, Alwoodley, ganton, Hankley common, Moortown, St Mellion.

Others I've previously played but also played this year were -

West hill, Saunton (both), Royal North Devon, Goodwood, Hayling, Belfry, East Devon, Frilford Heath, Oxfordshire

Been a pretty good year really!

Might look for an England 100 myself, Scotland and Ireland pose logistical problems for sure!

Enter an Open comp there in July. You will find a fine and extremely challenging course.

Again subjective but I would agree Berwick is a better golf course than Gullane.

Stupid post, Saunton is brilliant as is St Enodoc and B&B.

It's not really it's his opinion and that's what makes these lists so subjective and "interesting". I look forward to re-visiting this thread when the new list comes out.

As stupid as yours I suppose

Opinions vary, get over it

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but to say B&B is the only 'half decent' links course in the south west is plain crazy.

The fact you've suggested favouritism because it's south of the border is where imho your post loses its credibility

I never suggested anything of the kind

Just had a quick look and nothing on site yet. There's no doubt the course is stunning but get 50 yd from green and your on the temps, so bunkers etc never came into play.
Did enjoy reminiscing from when I used to caddy there.
