Are you too cool for the Texas Wedge?

Interesting.... I play a huge variety of shots around the greens there. You get into spots that really force you to think about how to play the next shot. Playing there regularly has improved my short game no end!

(Huge upturned saucer greens with big undulations all over, for those that don't know the course)

Let's just say I was too scared to miss the greens I focused really hard on finding nearly all of them in regulation. Had a couple of greenside bunker shots, and a couple of 30/40 yard pitches after poor tee shots, but didn't have to get creative, which with my chipping skills, or lack of, was a plus. Nice course, better than I remembered, but then last time I played it I struggled to barely break 80...much better this time despite a handful of 3 putts - otherwise would have been under par... Next time perhaps!
Can certainly see how those greens would improve your chipping, and test ones nerve...

I use the putter more than anyone I know. Advantage of playing on a heathland course is the fairways run at a similar speed to the greens. Also started using a hybrid which has increased my range for rolling on the ground to about 50 yards.,

I would love to go aerial with the shots, but no chance with my chipping yips.:(

Yes I have the rights on bad mouthing Gordons chipping. Actually not sure it qualifies as chipping, more a spasm.

Unfortunately it is better than mine.:(

Hey, we are chipping gods! Remember the 3rd on Wednesday where we both got chip and putt birdies? :fore:

I probably don't use it as much as I should. Partly because I'm rubbish at judging how much extra speed is required, and not wanting to trust it to stay straight before it reaches the green.

All other things being equal though, generally I'll lean towards the putter if getting down in 2 is important and chip it if it needs to go in.

As Smiffy would say, even a blind squirrel finds a nut occasionally.:D

Was impressive that all four of us birdied the hole. Louise stood up to pressure of having to hole the last putt.

What the one who obviously has the best all round game and lowest handicap off anyone at the meet?

Also wasn't Louise only 1 point less then you off the yellows :D

Dunno what her score was, I was too busy looking at her legs

I used the Texas Wedge to great effect while making a 2 on the par 4 3rd in todays medal :whoo:

It's a shame I made 7 on the par 3 15th :o

In club foursomes k/o match yesterday we're one up played last - we are 80yds from green in two opponents are 130yds from green in two - over their ball is clubs best exponent of Texas wedge - and he sticks one to four feet. My buddy misses green - they hole putt for birdie and we are off to extra holes. We won on 21st but his tw on 18 was brilliant
