I don’t understand the objection to women playing off different tees. Ladies playing off forward tees is fundamentally accepted within golf. The female tours will frequently play the same courses as the men, off an advanced tee - dies it really matter if the pro game mirrors the amateur game and has that as part of a mixed competition - did it matter when Linn Grant won the Scandi mixed?

For me, the tours are full of events that are the same old same old, there’s plenty of scope to shake things up without remotely threatening the validity of male and female pro golf, describing it as a novelty is a little short sighted imho, especially given the co-participation of the sexes in the game at amateur competitive level, and the game as a social pastime.

Your last point, absolutely - a mixed Matchplay event - Ryder Cup format - but same sex pairings in the Sunday Singles would be a great even in my view.
As has been mentioned, we can have different tee competitions at amateur level because our handicaps are based on the tees we play off. That isn't the case at professional level.

And even off different tees, it isn't uncommon for ladies to get additional shots if they have a higher course rating. Would you give female professional golfers a few shots bonus each round as well?

Different tees is a nonsense. Its negating length as a differentiator in golf performance.
It would be like allowing those who are bad from sand to take a free drop to the grass beside it. Not such a good putter ? Just pick up and call it 2 putts outside 8ft and 1 putt if inside.
Handicapped golf has already been invented - known as a handicap.
If you want to find the best, then its open, unhandicapped golf, same course, same tees, no allowances. I cant believe this conversation, if I take it at face value, is actual going on.

For those suggesting moving tees forward for the ladies would make a fair competition between men and women, then let me ask this:

Should McIlroy play off tees further back than someone like Zach Johnsen? Why give women an advantage due to lack of distance, when there are many others factors other than sex that give some an advantage over others.

Women clearly have different physical capabilities then men. You're not giving them an advantage by allowing them to play forward tee's, you'd be given them a fair chance of competing with men.

If you ask them to play the same tee's, then they're quite clearly being disadvantaged.

Good job Usain Bolt wasn't asked to run 105 meters, just to make things fairer.

And age. You have to adjust for age not just sex. So shorten the tees by say 2 yards for every year older than 18. Plus, fewer holes if the player finds it takes too long to play 18, and a par scored for any hole not played. And turbulators. If your driver hasnt turbulators, you can move it 10 yards closer to the hole as long as it lands in bounds.

That completely misses my point.

McIlroy clearly has different physical capabilities that Zach Johnson. If Zach played off forward tees, you'd be giving him a fairer chance.

Younger golfers obviously have an advantage over 40 or 50, so should the older golfers play off forward tees?

Why only try and level the playing field for sex, and ignore all other factors?

It doesn't matter for us, as we have handicaps. But it makes a mockery at elite level, if fans want the best golfer to win.

Please someone save me from Mark Roe. I would turn the sound off, but I'm working on the laptop and predominantly listening, only looking up occasionally, which makes listening to him worse as I am focusing on the commentary.
