scenario: get to club, first sign you see 'no changing in car park'.
go to pro shop, pay for round, ask where changing room is, directed to a code locked door, back to pro shop, doesn't have the code, directed to bar, gives you a code - it's wrong, back to bar, he insists it's right - it is for the members changing room - another visitor just finished his round gives you the right code. by which time you are now rushing for the tee and make a right horlicks of the tee shot as others are waiting.
that was at a form members club the first time I visited - it would have been the only time except that the society went there. They were organised that time.

I like to change in the clubhouse, as there are usually other players, partners etc in there, and the banter starts early. It is almost a ritual for me. I also like to change into golf socks as well, so not keen on getting my feet out in the current climate in the car park !
When i was a kid i can remember clubs that did allow you into the clubhouse, or had sheds to change in. I never took to be treated like a 'peasant', so i always make full use of all the facilities. Fortunately golf is not so snobby these days,but changing in the car park just seems to remind me of those days.
Have no problem with people that do, just not for me.

Isnt the mud better in the car park than all over the clubhouse/changing rooms? Plus most places have a blower machine thingy for cleaning shoes, so shoes are already clean by time I reach the car.
Im sorry, but anyone who has a big issue with people chsanging their shoes at their car really need to give their heads a shake

In a way I agree with you richart. During the winter months I arrive early and after booking in and having a quick chat I excuse myself to the changing room, where I change into my waterproofs, i dont play with my trousers on, if its cold i will wear a pair of tracksuit bottoms under my waterproofs.
I return to my car to put my bag away, i then get my clubs and trolley ready and go straight to the putting green. On completion of the round I just reverse what i do. If i want a shower i will have one. I can then go back into the club house, knowing that I am clean and not dropping dirt all over the carpet.
However during the summer months when its dry i will just change my shoes in my car.

A few years ago when I lived down south, had arranged to play with an NDN of my parents at Hammonds End In Harpenden. Was running late so grabbed my stuff out of the boot and started to put my shoes on and a guy comes running over in a blazer and says " your are not a member are you sir?" No I say just running late for tee time with a member so only had 5 mins spare till we tee off. " we do not allow guest's to change there shoes in the car park." so he then escorts me to the changing room. Missed the tee time and we had to wait an hour for the next time. One of the few rules I disagree with tnh.
