That would be absurd.

You'd have a situation that, all of us at home could see a goal kick should have been given. Corner taken anyway, and we all sit there knowing a goal will be ruled out if scored. Imagine a player got their head caved in trying to defend it.
Like not putting the flag up and someone getting hurt.

Same as the Díaz offside goal.
Once play has restarted they can’t stop the game.
But who makes up these rules.🤡🤡🤡
That was very different. VAR was allowed to act on that, made the correct decision, and communicated it poorly, meaning onfield referee gave wrong decision and restarted the game.

Not really. The game has simply not been stopped at all in that situation, for the very reason VAR can correct a potential wrong offside call.

Not talking about the decision I’m talking about once they have restarted it’s tough.

Generally, that is a good rule for VAR. But, in that circumstance, when it was a complete failing on VAR doing what it should have done, then there probably should have been an exception. Not sure if they have changed that, or just improved how they communicate

It's irrelevant as we were rubbish and were soundly beaten, but I'm sure they drew the line wrong for Gordon's goal, it implied Isak was the defender so it had to be onside, when he was off.

It's ridiculous and defenders are aware and so doing it even more. It's simple enough to stop, the fact it isn't happening is something that Howard Webb should be grilled about.
There was a couple of instances in one of the games this weekend (not sure which one) where the referee delayed the taking of a corner to warn players about pushing and holding, then completely ignored the same behaviour as the corner was taken. You see it all the time and it is getting out of hand with players holding each other, then one throws himself to the ground and wants a foul when they are doing the exact same offence.

I think it was the Man Utd v Arsenal game. Even the co commentator pointed out the daftness of warning the players. Just let it play out and deal with it, penalty or free kick the other way. The refs are enabling the behaviour.

Same with throw ins, some players are stealing 10-15yds, I get they might try a yard or 2, but it’s getting daft.
It seems players are trying to “cheat” all over the pitch, whether it be diving, claiming corners, etc etc.
I don’t remember so much confusion over what is and what isn’t part of the game.
Yes, players have always tried to gain an advantage, it just appesrs to be on a different level now.

When they try to steal 10yds, I'd like to see the throw in reversed. Again, this would soon stop things.

In essence, footballers are cheats. It is why it always makes me chuckle when a pundit criticises a refs decision 'because the players reactions showed it was serious'. If players are constantly cheating, how is a ref to know what is real and what is not?

This. How are they not all ashamed? They blatantly lie when a ball goes out off them and stick their hand up. Never mind all the other play acting and antics. It's embarrassing, they should be embarrassed. It's what turns me off football more and more as a spectator sport.

99% of pundits are ex-pro’s so they don’t see it as cheating, more “seeking to gain an advantage” or “it’s part of the game” which in all honesty I sort of get, but then it’s down to Officials to manage.

Unfortunately we are quick to blame the Officials when things go wrong, yes some is blatant, but it’s 4 of them against 22 cheats on the pitch and another 30 in the dug outs.

Said it before and I truly believe it, don’t fine players or ban them for Red & Yellow cards, take points off them, ie, start of the season, 40 Yellows or 5 Reds = 3 points deducted, every 15 Yellows after that = 2 points.

Bit drastic, but something massive like that costing them positions in the league would have them changing their behaviour.

Because they don’t really care about anything beyond trying to win and trying to get money into the pockets

They will try anything to gain advantage

But it’s nothing new -‘players have been doing it for decades

Yep - and it’s also scrutinised more

There are lots of things to not like about the sport these days

Most of it derived from money

Rugby Union has seen glimpses of play acting but only glimpses. How have they kept a lid on it once it became a professional sport? Do the players have more self-respect? I'm inclined to think that's a part of it.

That’s the bigger issue though (not you) but people have accrpted it and those in charge have not clamped down on it and allowed it to get out of hand! The “High Bar” at corners is a perfect example.
