Nah, the best bit of sledging will always be Jimmy Ormond. When he walked out to bat, Steve Waugh told him pointedly that there was no way that he was good enough to be playing for England - to which Ormond replied "maybe not Steve, but at least I'm the best player in my own family".

On Key, I also thought the comment made to him in an U19 international was great - I think it went "c'mon lads, he's sweating mars bars out here".

Surely the McGrath - Brandes Biscuit is up there

Then of course Sarwan and McGrath

Then imo one my favs is the Thomas - Richards one

Then of course there was Ian Healey’s magnificent comment to Phil Tufnell.

“Lend me your brain, Tuffers, I’m building an idiot.”

I love the sledging when I played and when I watch it. If you've played a decent level (and I have) sledging adds that extra competitive spirit to it.
I loved it too. Gave it and took it. Very much part of the game.

The whole not allowed to get in the batsmans vicinity is a joke. A nice send off is awesome.

In my playing days,.. i used to play in a Thurs afterwork league. There were plenty of companies we played against, but there was a "greenjacket" or so team. Mostly tradesmen and big lads. Some good players, but others were "whoever is available on site today", the level of abuse and sledging was next level. It was no fun to play against them, and a few teams complained. i think they won a few years because teams gave a walk over. eventually thrown out of the league..

You want some aggression. I would say we r closer to Wimbledon + Rugby level rather than Football 'throwing a punch' levels

Wrong brother. The sledge was said to Mark Waugh. Still a good line though.

I never had a problem with it when I was playing - but things did start to change the last couple of seasons, and there were definitely issues once it ceased to be a given that English was the language spoken on the field., such that I wonder if I would actually be in favour nowadays. Funniest ones I heard in club cricket? There was a rather portly wicketkeeper, think he played for Basingstoke, who was trying to deadbat a draw - our Kiwi came out with "doesn't matter how long you drag it out, there's no more tea left"

Best one I heard off was when an entire team kept quiet and didn’t say anything, batsman was out 2 overs later having not been able to cope with the silence.

I thought Siraj goign "where is Bazball" to Root was really funny..

Though not sure what Gill was referring to here during the evening timewaste

Although Stokes needs to add a touch of jeopardy for Jadeja. Give him the chance to play a big shot with risk attached. Just letting him block 3 and tip and run off the 4th is pointless

A friend once said welcome to the crease number 23, he was the opener for the third team he was playing against. He said what do you mean, well you're the 23rd best player at your club. He wasn't particularly happy and didn't last very long

This needs an insightful observation.

Sadly, India are going to do to us what we did to Australia at Leeds when Stokes went barmy one end and Jack Leach dropped anchor at the other.

Find it weird that Bashir can just come on and bowl but not field because his injury is an external one. Cricket needs to sort out the whole substitute thing and what they are allowed to do and not to do. Too confusing at the moment.
