The Cricket Thread

Really? Golf greens get switched early morning and by 9.00 are bone dry. Even if it is a really heavy dew surely it is not beyond the wit of man to dry the strip and the bowlers run ins etc.
They might be in the south but not up here. I suspect both Headingley and Old Trafford would be impacted, not accounting for if Chester le Street ever got another Test.

We are also having this discussion during a heat wave. In normal times it is much more relevant.

The dew doesn't need to be heavy to impact a cricket wicket. Any sort of moisture can make a difference and 11am is a reasonable time to allow for that to clear.

Agree.. they should play full quota. Monetary fines are pointless, esp for big teams. They should be docked runs AND WTC points.
The time wasting was pathetic but understandable. Gill getting physio on the ground was poor too

Wow .. the first 10 minutes overs seem to be hot curry ‘give them hell’ session from India.. forget bazball, just wear them down from Eng. there is plenty of time for bazball after tea

Well Englands 💩 housery last night has certainly come back to bite them in the backside… Indian bowling has been fired up from the start, an excellent performance and the England batsmen have not stood up to the intensity! Need a partnership, badly.

That’s an awful swipe from Stokes.

I get the modern England approach, really I do. It was much needed to breathe some life into red ball cricket. But equally, when our backs are to the wall in a session, there are times to dig in just a little.

Winning matches is great. Throwing them away less so.

That Bhumra Yorker to Carse is just a masterpiece… always reminds me of his Yorker to Pope a few years ago.. absolutely unplayable

On the plus side it means some tired Indian batters for an hour today

I thought it would be evenly matched if India finished like 50-60/2… Wowzer from Stokes and Carse… now an English game surely.

Whoever wins, it will be a memorable one .. not sure what is the lowest defended total in 4th inning ..

From google

In the matches played at the venue since 2000, the host holds the record for the lowest total defended. England was able to defend 182 runs against Ireland in 2019. England also prevented South Africa from chasing down 183 runs in 1955.

Pathetic fine and demerit point for Siraj giving Duckett a send off. Shouting yes and pumping your fists is not over the top. Aggression is part and parcel of the game.

The edge in this match is the bit that makes it super interesting.

He might have got away with it before he bumped him but you can't have contact. Personally, I also think he got too close to him, roaring in the batsman's face is not on imo. I'm okay with a bit of needle but he crossed a little too far there and the ref has rightly reminded players where the line is.

No, the only thing pathetic was the send off.

The posturing reminds me of much of the so called football hooliganism that is in fact nothing more than pavement dancing.

Easy to shout in someone's face and to point and gesture when you know that there's no danger of any response beyond more verbals.

Sledging is just a joke.

Pope walked into him. He was stationary. Nothing about that in the siting report per the lads on Sky.

Rubbish. Comparison with football hooliganism is a massive stretch.

Too much in sport is being sanitised.
