The Cricket Thread

Not sure about the particular incident but umpires call allows for a margin of error in the tech. When the tech shows an incredibly close call, flicking a bail for example rather than whacking it, they stay with the umpires original decision. The tech is good, it isn't perfect as it is assuming what is going to happen. It doesn't actually know as fact.

I like that aspect and players have faith in the umpires. Their success percentage is phenomenal, no one who stands at this level is even average.
This is true but it's actually even more "interesting". The predictive part is reasonable good, but more fundamentally it can't tell EXACTLY where it hit the pad. By it's very nature a leg pad is soft and designed with some give. This complicates the calculation. For example a ball turning 4 degrees from straight and hitting a pad 2m from the wicket. The difference between the pad giving 5mm and giving nothing when the calculation starts - would translate into 1mm by the time you get to the stumps. Also for anyone that has ever played cricket and stuck a set a wickets into the ground - the width is supposed to be 9 inches across. But that is not measured exactly each time a stump is removed. So they could be 1 or 2 mm out easily.

To me ,it’s not his batting that makes me not like him, it’s his over the top reactions when someone is out, especially when he is not involved. When one of the Aussies was out today, he immediately runs right across the pitch into the face of the batsman and goes off on his own mini lap of hon before congratulating the bowler.
Aye the kind of behaviour, & worse, that the cheating Aussies have been subjecting teams to for years & years so maybe time they got some of it back.
I also think that folk need to realize that, in India, there is no 'Village Green' cricket & all of its associated niceties.
It's their National Sport & as such is as grassroots as football is in the UK so not surprisingly, has very similar behaviours associated with it. Up here the Bradford League is very similar.

Guys, keep race out of the debate. The next person that plays a race card to defend something that isn‘t there gets a holiday.

This one is going to polarise opinion in Australia. Said it before, but the Australian sports fans I know say Warner is not widely liked there, so Johnson probably has a point.

i havnt read Johnsons comments, but some Aussies i know don't like the fact he has been able to retire on his terms when they think he should still be being picked let alone get fairwell games

Warner has been good over his career.

He's not been 'great'. That is a for special talents only.

Not sure if there is more to this in that he wanted to retire after winning the World Cup but might have quietly been asked to do another series as they need him for that specifically?

I wasn't a fan of Warner from the start, but as soon as he was caught cheating in Sandgate, he became irrelevant.

Who is it in the England set up who keeps telling Liam Livingstone he can bowl? Absolute rubbish who goes for runs every match, sometimes I think he is bowling for run outs!

Agree. He was a member at our Club during COVID is from Barrow 7 miles away. The Head Greenkeeper who has played for The County at cricket said he is so arrogant as a young lad. he walks with a swagger

They keep going on about how he can bowl both leg and off spin, maybe if he just concentrated on one he would be better
