I've been watching highlights of the Women's Ashes this summer and I've been impressed with the general quality of cricket. No question the commentators have been over hyping the skills on show, but then to some extent it is their job to do this. In the same way that Sky commentators hype every premier league goal as a brilliant finish even when it is a simple tap in.

The last time I really watched women's cricket was the 2017 world cup in England. It's clear the game has come on massively in a relatively short space of 6 years. The fielding is so much sharper because the players are more athletic, this also shows in the way that bowlers are running in harder and batters are definitely hitting the ball harder. I'm guessing this is the impact of the IPL - just like the men's game.

Yes. Yesterday's ODI was a good game of cricket. Some of the female bowlers could teach the men a thing or two about bowling cleverly without pace in any format.

For me absolutely nothing to do with the IPL, if you had said the Bug Bash in Australia that’s been going on for 4 to 5 years then yes.

With the series now back in play, it puts even more pressure on Anderson’s selection to play at his home ground in one last Ashes game. Huge game ahead.

I don't follow women's cricket, so I was guessing the IPL. Didn't realise it was only a year old.

In any case, what is clear is that both teams now consist of athletes who take the game seriously and are trying to be as good as they can be.

You couldn't say that about the England women's team 6 years ago. They have upped their game, and it shows.

Well done to the England Women, winning the T20 series and the ODI series against the best in the world. They didn’t get the Ashes but they matched the Aussies at every stage.
Particularly pleased for Kate Cross who, as listeners of the NoBalls podcast (which I thoroughly recommend) will know, has been through a lot recently.

For all the talk of Bazball we've scored 380 runs in a day playing proper cricket shots and not doing anything silly. Crawley and Root both unlucky with the ball keeping low but that's probably not a bad thing with having to bowl Australia out again to win the match. Push on in the morning and get the lead over 200 and then hope the weather holds for long enough to get the win.

I just hope we don’t lose our heads and throw the last six wickets away with rash shots. England are in a fantastic position to get a decent lead by lunch/early afternoon and have another bowl.

Great day yesterday, for Eng. Crawley for 40% of his innings at the start looked like a 3rd XI cricket getting very lucky. The rest was a joy to watch. Root was class personified.
