Supplementary Cards, for Handicaps...........Good or Bad.......??

Is having a handicap below your ability (according to your example) an abuse of the system?

If having a vanity handicap is someone's purpose in life then they can just declare a handicap below there own for every comp, no need to go to these lengths.

As for the bandit abusing the system ..... You can't use the supp card enough to abuse the system, that's what qualifiers are for !

Exactly.

Vanity handicaps will be exposed sooner rather than later.

Bandits' handicap building - a slow process of 1 shot increase per year via Supplementaries.

The reason I used the example I gave......a friend of mine plays with my work colleague every week, as stated, 15 qualifiers, nowhere near a cut, rolls up 1 monday morning, with his uncle, supplementary, 2 shot cut........
My mate is suspicious of this new wonder card
Point Im really trying to make is, with 15 CRAP qualifiers already in, enough evidence of this guys playing ability, why is 1 supplementary card now taken as being his true new H/cap, monday morning, with uncle, yellow tees, empty course..........think you getting the picture
No system is flawless, I know, but this is Defo open to even greater abuse

In this example Won't the annual review see through this anyway and reccomend a readjustment back up?

Personally, I can't see any reason not to have Supps. The more you sample something, the more accurate the data. So as with many on here who probably don't get to play in as many comps as would like, I like the idea that I can submit additional cards. With only 12 qualies a year, holidays, bad weather, I may only get to play in 6, whereas I could have another 40 or 50 rounds that aren't considered. Some of these rounds may be non qualifying comps, but still competitions none the less.

Can't see the problem with supplementary cards going in for reductions (except cat1) - If I was a handicap sec I'd probably refuse any that came in looking for increase (probably against CONGU to do so but I'd still would!)

Golf is a game based on honesty and integrity, but this supp card system, allows even greater abuse of the system, for those wanting ''Vanity'' cuts........or the bandit looking for even more lifts

It's not though, is it? It's 1 supplementary card plus the 15 qualifiers that is taken as his true handicap.

Even if there is something suspicious about it, surely he'll get found out next year when he plays another 15 qualifiers and gets nowhere near his new lower handicap and get a bunch of 0.1s back. I can't see how this is to his benefit other than to allow him to say a number which is a bit lower than another number when people ask him what his handicap is.

He won't have to wait until next year's qualifiers - his 15 qualifiers and his 1 Supplementary will together be subject to analysis when his club conducts the Annual Review.

I'm a fan.

The more 'competition' cards are played, the better imo. As long as the club makes sure that the activity is done in the prescribed way - registered first then played, as opposed to good card; let's register it as a Supplementary!

And some clubs put a limit on the number of Supp cards that can be played in year/month/week.
