I just posted in another group on this but this is probably the best place to ask.

If the Home club can't configure an Away day comp to be a qualifier ( needs to be treated as a general play), how can this be enforced.

Do we just request that players enter their own scores as general play? What if they don't all do it?

They could ask the host club to enter the cards but they could also come back to me and I will do it.

This begs the question , why don't EG allow handicap ISVs to simply process away days as qualifiers in the first place?

I don't get this.

Can the person organising not just treat any scores not entered in the system as No Returned (like in a normal club comp) and contact the player.

Put in a penalty score if the player does not submit it?

What are you calling an "Away day comp"?
Normally to me an away day is a mixture of golf and socialising where everyone is trying but not really taking it overly seriously. Often you don't really get a warm up, you might not have seen the course before, quite possibly had a beer or two before you tee off, in those circumstances I couldn't picture why anyone would try and force cards to be put in for handicap?

It's a club competition played to R&A rules with prizes. We have 4 a year hosted on varying courses. EG encourage clubs to make such rounds as qualifying but in this case it's far from clear what the best practice is.

The cards will be submitted and the results will be published in the normal way. The big difference is that it cannot be set up as a normal qualifier like at Home

I'm sure someone will come along to explain how they've done it.

Essentially, every player will start round knowing it is a handicap round, just like a club comp.

If the organiser can't set it up electronically to send to WHS, then they could ask players to use MyEG. If anyone doesn't, you should have their physical card anyway. So a club administrator can enter it afterwards, just like any GP away score

What are the differences that can't be resolved? Are they on the golf course or just in score reporting? What is a "normal qualifier", ie, qualifying for what?

Thanks, that's pretty much where I think I am with it. Seems bonkers to me that I can't just send the scores wholesale to WHS just like it was a Home competition.

Worst case no one bothers and I have 40 scorecards to enter. Doesn't seem right to me.

EG either want the scores or they don't., why make it this difficult?

Handicap qualifying/counting.

At Home we choose non handicap counting or handicap counting. The latter is 99% the case.

With club competitions on a Away course you can't choose, it's always Non handicap counting.

So what's the best way to get those scores into the WHS so that they are counted for handicap?

Ask people to add them as general play? What if they don't? Seems strange to leave it to each players discretion if EG want all scores counting- where possible.

So it has nothing to do with the golf course playing conditions, just electronic reporting? Seems strange that an individual can't enter the score as a competition score himself when they've played in a competition.
Doesn't the "system" trust the player?

It is strange I don't know why it is. I assume it's the same for all handicap ISVs. I've never come across this before but we've never wanted to make Away days handicap qualifying till now. I didn't expect it to be difficult, just choose the Away course, tick handicap counting and job done.

No, I can't do that. Very odd.

We have a Capts Away day and it’s all putting out etc

So we have requested that everyone enters their card onto their EG app when they finish

Anyone who can’t we enter it for them

Anyone that doesn’t enter it will not be eligible for any prizes on offer

Thanks, the only downside is that they have to enter card twice, once into EG and again into handicapmaster.

Not sure why any if this is needed though, why not just let me use handicap counting for Away courses?

A few reasons, to produce the results sheet, resolve any countbacks, plus we have 4 away days a year and we have a overall champion prize best 3 from 4.

If HMaster is used for results etc, why enter it in EG?

I believe you can request that the home club grants permissission for you to run an event on their course. This certainly happens when County comps that are, of course, always held at away clubs. The County uses their own software but the clubs must give their permission. I have seen the requests come in but not sure what sort of organisation can raise them - Counties and EG certainly can as probably things like Mizuno Pairs can do also.
Worth checking with EG if club to club can.
