Away day qualifying scores

Gosh, that sounds like a complicated mish-mash. One would think it could be sorted such the player can post both his own general play and his own competition scores (as I can do in our system)? And, btw, what is the difference between general play and competition scores if both were played under all the golf Rules and handicapping Rules? If different, why?
It's a result of a software landscape that has always had many different providers, going back pre-WHS, with minimal interoperability. The unions had the opportunity to offer a one-stop shop to clubs with the WHS implementation, but only Scotland tried - but the software wasn't really ready for release so it was a failure.

Of course, there is no meaningful difference between competition and general play scores. However, in GB&I there is an historical cultural difference, with competition scores being afforded undue reverence by many.

I've not read the entire thread but can't the club you are playing at set this up as an open competition and submit the scores in the normal manner?

We do run "non-member" competitions for larger societies, corporate and charity days as part of the package, but they have all been best-ball and scrambles.
As far as I know, no-one has yet requested we run an individual or 4BBB comp for them in order to have scores submitted for handicapping.

The Golf Union restriction is that they will not allow "away" scores to be entered for handicapping purposes by the hosting home club's ISV. The competition will need to be processed as "not handicap counting".

What is the reasoning behind that restriction given that the player can enter it from an app?

I think this message has gotten corrupted or confused somewhere along the way.

Host clubs certainly can submit scores from visiting players through their ISV, and do so all the time in their opens, as they must.

What can't happen, is a (home) club submitting scores from an away course through their ISV; only the home course can by WHS-linked.

Not sure that’s true

We host a number of junior events and county events where they use our ISV to enter the scores

When entering single Opens the scores are entered as away scored

Oops. Misread my own writing. Now corrected

Golf Union Approved Tournament Organisations are NOT restricted in this manner. I assume the County has such approval

Thanks for all your replies.

I still don't understand why the restriction is in place, whereby away scores can't be processed on a home club ISV in the same way home club comps are.

On one hand they want to encourage as many rounds to be input as possible into WHS. And on the other they put this unnecessary restriction in place.

Just to be really clear, I can set the comp up for the Away course, I can take a computer to the Away course, the players can all sign in and enter scores, but the scores can't go to the WHS. Instead individual players would need to duplicate the card entry into their MyEG app.

It's bonkers.

I've contacted EG and will see what they say.

Whick ISV allows you to set up a course on an away course? I don't think it csan be done on IG?
