Ultimately, players being sorted on countback had the same nett score, so technically neither deserve to be better or worse than the other(s).
A play off just won't be possible for the vast majority of club golf.
I'd argue countback is at least reasonable. In that it more likely rewards the golfer that kept a stronger head and persevered with their round, rewarded for a strong finish. Whereas it doesn't reward the golfer who started well and let it slide. Better than a coin toss anyway
