It's got to be Murray who wins it after breaking the british men's wimbledon hoodoo. Must be the greatest British sporting achievement of the year.

Phil Taylor could definitely be "Pub Games Personality of the Year" unless we've got an amazing dominoes or skittles player I don't know about.

Mo Farah..... <deep sigh>..... I really liked him but since he's snubbing the commonwealth games I've gone right off him, won't be getting my vote. Not that I'll bother voting anyway......

Ben Ainslie? Sorry but if he didn't win it in an Olympic year I don't understand why he's even nominated this year.

good post:thup:

plus the media minority sports like squash, fishing, speedway etc will never excite the nations passion unfortunately

Would be good to see some nominee's from "media minority" sports though..

Maybe there should be a special category - Sporting Pastime Personality of the Year to cover likes darts, fishing, ditch jumping, cheese rolling, bog snorkeling, tiddleywinks, banker-baiting etc :whoo:

Do you ever post without making a gentle reference to your 1980's style class war? I am sure communists in Russia like sailing boats too.

He he... i go to bed a simple trucker, and wake up as Joe Stalin.
Is what i have written wrong?
You will of course of noted that i said both required skill and dedication, and imo both deserve inclusion.
Unlike fishing of course, which requires the co-operation of a third party (the fish) in order to win. There is skill involved, but lets be honest so is luck. ;)

Do communists sail in Russia? No idea mate, never been and no desire to go.
Oh, and i'am a socialist not a communist, from each according to their ability, to each according to their contribution, not needs, an important difference.
I suggest you do a bit of reading on the subject, i'am in good company you no, Albert Einstein, George Bernard Shaw, Fredrick Engels, i could go on, but i don't like to name drop. ;)
Hope the fish are biting.

if it's an Absolute FACT. 100% true fact it will be public knowledge so no need for pm's, just link to the evidence

I suspect their is no link because it's 100% rubbish. Can't really see anglers voting by the boat load.
Suppose it was Gary Linekar that gave him the info whilst they had morning brunch together at the Ivy

I'm with Dodger, does nothing for me, you pick from a selected biased short list so its NOT a complete justified public vote.

The programme should be culled...

Nominees: Ben Ainsley, Ian Bell, Hannah Cockroft, Mo Farah, Chris Froome, Leigh Halfpenny, AP McCoy, Andy Murray, Christina Ohuruogu, Justin Rose

Think Murray will be the clear winner

I think they should stop waisting our money on tripe like SPOTY

I don't believe it because he didn't add a 'cross my heart and hope to die' ;)

Well it is one of their most popular programs with increased viewing figures each year. So I guess they won't get rid of it

I like the idea of a sporting review of the year, just do away with the meaningless award part of it.

If their was an ITV Bake Off programme on the other side, SPOTY wouldn't stand a chance,

Disagree totally. SPOTY is one of the most popular programs on the BBC throughout the year.

Great British Bake Off is BBC and worth the licence fee alone!!!

I wonder how what the overall cost for SPOTY is in cash money terms? tens or hundreds of millions?

A one off event - won't be a massive cost.
