Meronk vs. Hojgaard

So here are the headline stats between Meronk and Hojgaard. Really not much to choose between them. Biggest differences are Hojgaard hits it 12 yards longer on average, but he also missed the equivalent of 1 more fairway per round. Meronk has the better of the two in scrambling but Hojgaard better from bunkers. Otherwise its nip and tuck.....

Recent events sees Hojgaard with a 14th, 3rd and 5th vs Meronk with 23rd, 62nd and 13th

The headline stat is tournament victories, and in the last 18 months...

Meronk 3, Højgaard 0

Pairings

Foursomes

Rory and Fleetwood
Fitzpatrick and Hovland
Rahm and Hatton
Rose and Lowry

Fourballs

Rahm and MacIntrye
Rory and Strakka
Hatton and Hojgaard
Hovland and Aberg

the good thing is you can put anyone with

Rahm , Rory and Hovland and I think they will play pretty much every game

The rest will have at least a session off with someone like MacIntrye and Strakka just playing Fourballs imo

Agree with the foursomes. Europe is basically an 8 man team, and thats why they have gone with foursomes first - hoping the big guns deliver from the start and get points on the board, or at worst dont lose ground. And then blood the minnows once there is a foundation from the morning, and the fourballs are less punishing for a misfiring newbie. All 4 debuting in the first afternoon is too much though. I would say 2 only, and it would depend on how form and points go that morning. And you dont divide your strength - it will be two established fourballs, two with newbies.

Friday Fourballs:

Rory and Fleetwood
Rose or Hatton with Aberg
Rahm and Straka
Fitzpatrick and Hovland

Saturday foursomes might see one or a most two of the big 8 dropped according to form, and how Straka and Aberg played the previous afternoon. Hojgaard and Bob will probably get their chance in the middle, maybe together, of the Saturday foursomes.

Maybe, also needs form players. He's playing 18 hole matches, not 4 rounds of stroke play. That said it's a toss up between the two and I do feel for Meronk.

I don't get the fall out on Meronk, he had a reasonable season and perhaps another time could have made it but we're talking about a 30 year old who has played in 6 majors and missed the cut in three. Very good for most but not exceptional enough to feel too hard done by for not getting a pick.

Lowry brings experience, Nicolai plays the course well and at 22 has a brighter future - potentially rising to the occasion now he's picked.

It does. The big guns in form. The explosion of Åberg onto the scene. Straka in form and moving up the rankings in recent months. Rather than only 8 against 12, it looks like Europe has 10.

And while maybe unfair on the pair and they do deserve to be there, Clark and Harmon do weaken wher we might have expected bigger names on the USA team. Add in JT, playing like a drain, and the fight looks pretty even. I am going for a 13/15 finish which could be for either team.

JT is just there for the high fives and U S A chanting. US team has become too sucked into a cameraderie, team spirit self belief vibe. A misread of how Europe has won RCs the USA didnt think they should have, and overreaction to Phil and Tiger misfires of the past.
Ultimately its about golf, and JT doesnt have it this year. With Europe on an upswing, he is a passenger, good ol boy, buddy, that they couldnt afford to just bring along for the ride. And it will now hurt them

Who decides what they play 1st. Is it the home team? It was foursomes last time and fourballs 2018

I'd imagine there's a few Europeans happy that Reed isn't there - he's clearly got the ability to needle players - one in particular.

Regardless of the outcome of the event, we already know this years event will be haunted by the team members excluded due to LIV - whether it ends up being used as an excuse for one team or the other's defeat, we'll have to wait and see.....

We don’t “already know” that at all

The only people that will discuss liv and the players not there during the event and after the event will be the LIV bots and fans who need to find someway to put some focus on it

All the other golf fans will just concentrate on the 12 players picked on their respective teams

That was a serious rusk 18 months ago when LIV was claiming they were going to have lots of the worlds best golfers. That their recruitment train ground to a halt a year ago with only a handful, changed that. The RC is entirely unaffected by LIV as it happens, fortunately. LIV is gone, as any threat to the RC or the tours.
