Can you log on to your account through the council website and see your bill? I know Wiltshire Council have the bills available online

Instead I've gone onto last year's and added all the % increases from the mayor, council and then social health care

I once read that councils are limited to 5% increase per year on council tax. That may have changed though

Indeed, ours is 4.99% but it all depends on what section

It's 2% on social care, 2.99% on actual council take then the mayor increases his stake by X % which is why its not a simply 4.99% increase across the board

Last year worked out 5.6% I believe

As has been mentioned, Councils can only raise CT by 5% (unless special circumstances apply - see Birmingham). The rest of the increase in from the police, fire, mayor, parish councils etc who also apply their own little increases. Is it false reporting, possibly. Is it misleading - definitely

If you don't already, you can ask the council to spread the payment over 12 months, when they usually only give 10 months.
