The expensive quotes probably don’t want the work so quote big to dissuade you from going with them. I knew a plumber that used to do this. Amazingly he still got the job sometimes.
Never go for the cheapest, good chance it will be shoddy.
Never go for the most expensive either, it’s priced that high as they don’t really want the job.

Go for something in the middle, someone who is local and appears trustworthy.

I always start by going on the local Facebook pages and asking for recommendations , when the same name comes up 2 or 3 times, they go on the list
👍
The thing is that the most expensive quote is from a guy that is also quoting to do our kitchen and to build a new porch/downstairs toilet so he knows that there's going to be £30k+ of work up for grabs this year, and it's not just one small job that he needs to bump the price up on. I asked for recommendations on our local Facebook group and have been getting the ones with most mentions to come and quote. Just had another quote come in for £970, which I am tempted to go with as I liked the guy when he came round yesterday and he was very professional while he was here.

I did the bases for my 2 sheds myself, by digging out a few inches of clay levelling with crushed granite then paving slabs.
They haven't moved in 25 years, that's my practice net:D

Another month, another illness caught off the little one. Feels like my throat has closed up, can hardly swallow, my legs feel like I've done a marathon and my neck is sore to the touch. Feel very sorry for my baby if she feels this bad as well!

I hadn't heard "Nellie the Elephant" in decades.
Liza Tarbuck played it on the radio a few weeks ago. It took 2 weeks to get it out of my head.
It was on The Masked Singer twice at the weekend. Nothing can shift it. I went to sleep with it in my head last night and it's still on repeat this morning.

This is why im sent to the drs not the wife. She wouldn't be able to hold her tongue at the incompetence of the admin at our new practice

Our eldest has asthma, when I last went to order her meds they had taken them off her records. Got them back on

Then she had a bad attack. Had a review so I've gone to get a copy of her asthma plan , got it. Out of date. Wrong med dosage on there .. so back into the queue for reception. (Always long because a they make so many admin errors and B the check in machine is always broken) their claiming it's in date . Then went to check and oh we might need to see her. You did just after Xmas.

One of them times you just want to say just do your jobs right. But you don't because you don't want to get banned from the practice. Although would prob do us a favour

Temporary traffic light 🔔 🔚 s. Today, I approached the lights and they went red. The two cars in front of me blatantly went through the red, the second one a good 5s after it turned red. I pulled in to wait, only to find the 4x4 truck behind me overtake and go through the red, a full 10s+ after it turned. Needless to say that caused a right kerfuffle...the opposite way then took their turn in misbehaving, so that when it was my turn to go, I couldn't as all the cars from the opposite direction were still piling through.. Had to wait my turn again. If I had my other car with dashcam, I'd be tempted to pop the recording off to the 🚨🚓.

Just had my new Ignis in to the Suzuki dealer about the mild hybrid never working when driving. I drove 40 min to York and the service fellow jumped straight into the car to see for himself and sure enough....he couldn't get it to help either. 2 hours later, it's running....but they are now saying it won't run unless the oil temp is high enough. My argument was....I just drove 40 minutes, and short or longer drives it doesn't come on. They are saying it's because the weather is colder now. My response again is that it is a city car.....usually only doing a few miles....by your explanation the hybrid should NEVER work because of that....and it used to. Only had it 2.5 months....so as soon as they send "their" info about the service I'll be writing to Suzuki to see if I can get it turned back in. Too bad....I LIKED the car when the hybrid was running.

If it's like it is in this area they only pay minimum wage for admin and receptionists and wonder why they don't get better quality staff.

Well said, Fundy. Get well soon @PhilTheFragger and @chrisd - hope you’re both home and back on your feet soon.
I got back home later today after spending 7 days in hospital. I certainly had a heart attack and today was spent in a Private hospital in Maidstone having heart surgery. I ended up having 2 stents put in so glad I didn't have to pay!

I sincerely hope that Fragger came out ok too
