Dress code in an AGM?

EGM arranged this week to discuss some pertinent issues. The executive committee have coupled this with a ‘members forum’. And yet… “Gentlemen are required to wear a Jacket and Tie”. Plain ridiculousness again. Also, what about parity? No such instruction for our female members.

Because females are probably banned ;)

I’d be tempted to call for another EGM to stop stupid, unwarranted dress code stipulations in future.

The jacket & tie thing is just plain crazy. “Oh let’s potentially exclude members who might have something beneficial to say by telling them they need a jacket & tie.”

.

A farce. No doubt the dress code is to deter people from attending.

Whilst i agree, is it really a big problem to put a shirt, jacket and tie on to attend?
Yes. Not everyone has a jacket and tie - or one that still fits ;)

There is so little need these days for the 'jacket, shirt & tie' - times have moved on. IMHO clubs that still insist on this at an AGM are just putting barriers in place to avoid opinions that don't match the status quo 🤷‍♂️

For most people no, but I'll bet there's a few that would need to purchase a Jacket and tie. In any case that is not the point, how will a jacket and tie enhance the decision making at an EGM. Apart from that is, by keeping the "rifraf" out;)

I know that feeling buddy.

My personal opinion i agree theres no real need for jacket and ties but the members and committes of clubs, mine included, disagree. So i either adhere to it or leave. Its really that simple

Every club has a dress code that memebers prior to signing up, agree to adhere to. There can be no complaints.

If you want to make the dress code changes at your club, buy a shirt, tie, jacket and maybe apply to join the committee and put some effort in to propose changes.

The dress code in the club house does not require a jacket and tie. Ever. So we’re in a situation where there is a requirement just to attend a meeting - held in the same clubhouse. It’s crazy.
