I think these days the club would be very happy to see enough members at an EGM to hold one, worrying about what they are wearing would probably not come in to it.

....PEOPLE hate change....

Here's the thing. If jacket and tie isn't your norm, the "change" into adopting it, is a "change!" Folk don't like change! So you're all at it😁

That said, ANYTHING likely to reduce participation in the AGM is not good. My club agm used to be jacket and tie, that went several years ago.

Seems very counterproductive.

Our AGM agenda is always published on the website prior to the meeting and people have the opportunity to vote online. Is this the case at all clubs nowadays?

I haven't worn anything denim since 1989.
Last time I wore a tie was 2012. I remember that, because it was a wedding.

I'm wearing one right now, I remember it because its right now! :ROFLMAO:

Been a while since I wore denim too though, more of a Chino kinda guy

What shocks me in this thread is the amount of grown men who don’t own a form of jacket.

But, the idea of an EGM/AGM is to surely get the most turn out, on that basis of have expected trousers & shirt at most.

As someone else stated, if that’s the clubs request you have a few choices:

1- tow the line and attend in requested attire, you may even get your opinion heard.

2- don’t attend and then moan you had no input.

3- you don’t like the requirement, you say balls to the rules, you don’t attend and you leave

Why is that a shock? Perhaps in your circle a jacket is standard or common. For many it isn't and there is no need to own one. I find that a strange comment.

Not my circle by any means, but for any formal occasion etc I’d expect most to own a jacket even if it’s being worn with chino’s.

If you look at our hobby, with jacket being required at times it’s almost a requirement. Rather like golf shoes or waterproofs.

I’m with Oddsocks on this one, I would of thought most men from aged mid 20’s upwards will have attended a wedding or a funeral or even a job interview and would at least own a Jacket or a Suit.

I don't play at courses that need a jacket, it really isn't that common up here. Not at all

I may own a suit.....the amount of time that has passed since I last wore it renders the possibility of it fitting to be fairly remote....
