Bandits a 3 o clock.

I would define a bandit as someone who has just had a good day.

Someone who maintains a higher handicap in order to win and only plays min amount of qualifiers is cheating in my opinion

I'd say a potential bandit is one who occasionally has a good day! I know a guy who hits the ball a prodigious distance. If he has a day when he also hits it straight, then he's hard to beat - he has scored 45+ Stableford points a few times and driven the green (or been on the adjacent fairway) on a couple of depressingly tricky Par 4s!

Totally agree with your second point though! Provided that the 2 facts are connected. There may well be a perfectly valid, non-banditry reason for only playing the minimum number of qualifiers. we have only 'heard the evidence for the prosecution' in this thread!

Yes.
Someone who plays all the comps and very rarely beats his h/cap and out of the blue scores 40points.
And if I call someone a bandit, it's banter and ALWAYS followed by 'well played'

if using bandit in banter thats a bit different i believe - the case in this thread is a different use of the word "bandit"

I don't think you can compare the 2 formats either, if he was in a strokeplay medal he may have had an 8 or more on a hole or even NR'd it, but in matchplay all he's done is lose that hole, he's playing the person not the course so the 2 formats cannot be compared IMO.

Not a lover of matchplay events particularly open ones where some of these handicap issues always come to the fore. If I was to shoot close or under my handicap and still got beat by a couple of holes, say 2&1 then while I'd shake my opponent warmly but the throat (I mean hand) and winder if I'd just been mugged.

The issues with these handicap manipulators looking to target big events isn't helped by the fact a lot of comps are stableford and bogey with only a small handful being medal events. That lets them play with absolute freedom knowing one bad hole isn't a show stopper

So you would think you were mugged by someone who beat you by a couple of holes even though you only shoot close to your handicap or just under ?!?

So basically anytime you lost ?

This is one of the daftest statements I've read on here, so you play to handicap or only close to it and get beat by someone who does exactly the same but with a shot or 2 and you feel hard done by losing by only 2 holes

Thought exactly the same when I read it.......3 times just to make sure I was reading correctly.....!!

Come on Homer
You're way off the mark here

Somehow I'm really struggling to picture that

And from a handicap pov, the aboe para is a load of tosh too.

Given that I haven't noticed a cut this year and half a dozen 0.1s, you seem to be playing to 14+ over so it would only take someone playing to their handicap to beat you (by about the score you mentioned) too! Not that I've done a great deal better myself - but enough!

Stableford/Handicap actually takes more manipulating than Medal for a cheat to lose and avoid a cut btw! Can't just put a big score in on the last hole to avoid one!

That's one of the funniest images I've seen portrayed on this forum:D

It's hard to beat someone when giving over 4 shots IMO, just because of the non linear way higher handicap shots are lost.

It doesn't make them bandits, it's just the game

I don't know about that, we had to give 13 shots in our 4ball match today (11 from me) and we won 7&5. Ok we both played really well but it can happen.

Can't agree with that. I played 2 knockout matches last week, won 8 & 7 giving 13 shots and won 3 & 1 giving 11 shots. As has been said many times, players have high handicaps because they need the shots - being given loads of shots doesn't necessarily mean they feel confident of using them to best advantage.

Clearly didn't look too hard then as I went from 11.7 to 10.9 on the Sunday of the bank holiday with 0.1 back on Bank Holiday Monday so been cut to 11.0. I thank you
