I think people are having the wool pulled over their eyes with Bryson.

Firstly, his Youtube stuff was set up to change his image. Secondly, it's alot easier to act the nice guy when you have no problems and unlimited amounts of money.
He's doing an amazing job of it then. With 9 holes left in a major that he is in contention, he takes time to do this.

I very much struggled with him in the early days but I think he’s mellowed a little, or I’ve got used to him.
This could be part of it. I've watched none of the LIV golf and very little other golf recently. Maybe if I saw more of the current Bryson I'd change my opinion of him.

I suspect it's just the fact that he has a lot more freedom now he's not under the control of the PGAT's media rights policies - I'm sure you're right - he's still the same as he's always been, but until he left the PGAT, we'd never really been given the full picture.
Hahaha, mental.

Pretty incredible that the world no 124 came 2nd in a major and looked like one of the best players in the world.
I don't think anyone thinks the world rankings are currently accurate with respect to LIV players, but there is nothing remotely incredible or unusual about an outsider doing well or even winning majors

I am glad the BCD didn't win. Would have precipitated a whole LIV love in.

No doubt that he is a box office golfer though.

Was a very entertaining major and I hope that there are loads more like this!

Congrats Xander 👏👏👏
And
Bryson is box office..
At last, at least someone is finally prepared to accept the accuracy of the current world rankings.

I agree, great performance from the 124th best player in the world. Inspirational :)

It's obviously a small sample size, but Rahm is not an advert for LIV right now. He was one of the very best golfers in the world when he 'defected', but at The Masters and the PGA Championship he looked a bit lost.

BDC is obviously the complete opposite, which probably says a lot about his character.

Good point

Bryson always seemed to be that he liked to break the mould, and just do things his way. I suspect he likes to be challenged by people, and ups his game to try and prove them wrong. LIV could actually be something that, potentially, has fitted his character quite well.

I'm not sure about Rahm, he seems to be a golfer that you hear from very little, except when he does his mandatory interviews. Even in that Full Swing documentary, pre LIV, he seemed very quiet. When present, he seemed to just sit in the background while other players took centre stage. I think he is most comfortable staying out of the limelight and just playing golf, and being really good at it. So, not sure if LIV has disorientated him a bit at present. Is he trying too hard and feeling under a different pressure in Majors? Or, is he just simply going through a bad spell in Majors like many players have? Or is he just undercooked?

I've never understood the hatred people have for some other people. What has Bryson done that is so bad? I like the fact that he is constantly experimenting and not just doing things the usual golf way. I don't pay much attention to pro sports in general.....but jeez, give the guy a break. Now....if he is caught cheating all the time, or beating up little old ladies....go ahead and hate him all you want.

People’s “dislike” ( don’t like the use of the word hate) of BDC started before the recent split - and it’s down to him just being different

He has said a few things in the past that he prob regrets- Augusta being a par 65 ( I think it was ) for him and other stuff and there was a bit of talk of him being a bit arrogant as an am in the Walker cup

But when he plays he adds excitement to the game , it was fun watching him yesterday and he played some very good shots and he is one of the best players around , it is a shame we don’t see him and Koepka going up against the likes of Rory and Scheffler more often

Some very good golf but this event should never be a major and I've said that for years. One of the worst aspects of golf is how the USA literally stole it from the world and has a monopoly on the majors.

This should be scrapped and replaced with a huge tournament that moves around the world each year IMO.

IMO I'd keep this one and scrap The Masters 😉

Why not just add another one?
Agreed. I’d do two things:-

1. Keep the PGA as the “good scoring” major. Move it around both the USA, Canada and the wider world and tighten up the entry criteria while doing do.

2. Introduce a new 5th major, the World Championship. To be held in the autumn on classic and cool modern courses, but ESPECIALLY NON-PARKLANDS, in Europe, SA, Latin America, Caribbean, Asia, Australia and NZ. Slightly smaller field of around 120 (daylight and quality) of the Top 100, plus a few winners and other invitees from the previous year. Top 60 and ties.

Why a 5th major? The game is harder and more competitive than ever, so it’s much more difficult to assess greatness, when virtually nobody can win much more than 4/5 majors, when previous eras had players winning 6, 7 and more.

Overall…

Masters: Augusta Major
PGA: Good Scoring Major
US Open: Toughest Test
The Open: GBI Links/Oldest Major
World: Global Champions Major

Be good to hear everyone’s thoughts…

IMO

It’s the same with Tennis , you can’t just create majors , they are a major for a reason

And imo 4 is the right number

But I agree that the US PGA could be downgraded and another tour event up moved up to being a major

The Australian Open used to be seen as the 5th major

If that replaced the US PGA it would make it a better spread

But any competition being a major needs to be unique and I don’t think that can be created

What is this reason? As I mentioned in a different thread, tennis grand slams are 5 sets as opposed to the week in week out 3 sets, snooker has longer matches int eh bigger competitions, same with darts. Why are majors considered different to the other golf played throughout the year? And history does not cut it with me as the right answer
