Right, my plans have changed about going to the Linlithgow area for a weekend of golf. However the dumfries area has been suggested with powefoot golf course, siloth and southern championship links possibilities to play.

Anyone know what these are like or are there anyothers around that area we would be missing out on.

Any suggestions welcome

Cheers

Silloth and Southerness are good options if you can get on. Southerness has a an open comp on sunday and there are still tee times available. Powfoot not the same quality but still good, last few holes are more parkland in nature. Dumfries and Galloway I have not played but heard good things, Dumfries and County is good, {1st hole is micky mouse, stupid hole and cost me a treble yesterday in an open comp}Quickest greens in the area at the moment. Other options could be Carlisle {36 hole scratch there on sunday} or Brampton both parkland.

The comp dates I have mentioned are for this weekend, if you are going another date then obviously disregard.

You Won't find many tougher tests than Southerness,Its the only course i've played where i've been scared to get the driver out.
Very good course though!

I recommend Colvend about 15 miles west of Dumfries on the coast
Sorry.... lovely views, lovely people, nice club but absolute mickey mouse course.

that would be a "mickey mouse course " designed by Peter Allis then (BBC voice of golf ) ? He designed the back 9 holes 'over the road'.Your probably 'whingeing' about the par 3 where you have an option to smash it at the fence so it drops back down onto the green. It may not be 'proper golf' but as someone new to golf i love that option (even though I havent tried it yet ).I remember someone on here awhile ago slagging the course because of that.

As a newcomer I have been unable to break 110 on my 2 games here (normally hit high 90's ) so it seems a tough course to me.

Many different holes and marvellous scenery from above.

A wee bit further along the coast but brighouse bay is a lovely course, quite a strange setting in a caravan park, but don't let that put you off.

I second that. It's certainly different to most golf courses and for that reason alone is worth playing. Two very different 9s, the second 9 across the road is completely different from the original front nine.

Silloth and Southerness would be a must in my book. Also played Dumfries and Gallaway which is good.i was disapointed at Powfoot.
