What about those playing better not in the team?

A good team man in the RC? Like he was last time I suppose

I hope they do pick him as he'll get beaten....................again.
Who are these golfers that are playing better ?

Also he will not have to play with Woods again.

Check the fed ex and Ryder cup points lists, that should give you some sort of idea

Stricker will always be a bit lower in those lists due to the amount of events he plays

When he does play he is in and around the business end - certainly playing well enough to get a pick

You could argue that those on the fringes have better form over more events showing good consistency. I hope he does get a pick because he was gash last time.

Watson doesn't want Tiger, and I suspect Tiger may take the initiative and declare himself out of commission before the Sep 2 deadline for the captain's picks.

Right now the FedEx advertising guys are lining up to commit ritual suicide, and the TV guys for the RC might be doing the same soon.

Sky are quoting Watson as saying he'll pick Woods if he can prove fitness and form. Seems a huge gamble

I reckon you'll be lucky to get one of your 3, Bradley.

Mahan won't be in the running IMO, Stricker we've covered.

Personally I'd be happy if he picked your 3 as it means the team won't be as strong as it could be.
Phil asked who we thought would get the picks. ie who will Watson pick. I am sure he will go for experience rather than someone like Chris Kirk. I may be wrong of course and he might go for three rookies.

Only Phil & Fowler would worry me from their qualified list when pitted against the those in the current European team. I just hope the 'Watson effect' gets well and truly diluted before they tee off next month

Yeah I hope he's picked and able to play when it comes round. It makes a decent argument for him to get a pick despite the year to date

Just uber confident about Europe's team as things stand so McGinley could pick Hamble, Big Ted & Humpty as wildcards and I'd still fancy our chances!
(obviously don't put Humpty out first in the singles as he'll slow the field down :D)

Perhaps, but you can bet the PGA Tour, PGA of America and some sponsors are telling Watson they need Woods. And that Watson doesn't want to pick him. He is playing rubbish, crocked and has never been a team player.

No way Woods can really prove fitness. He is now subject to breakdown at almost any time.

If Woods is picked and then can not play through injury, presumably a replacement can be brought in at the last minute. I assume this is why Stricker has been told to take his clubs with him.

Not sure on the fitness of Kuchar or Dufner either, so US may need a few replacements.

Woods will play - Watson as good as admitted that yesterday. If Tiger says he's ready to play, he will get the nod. Crazy decision but all good for Team Europe. The other 2 spots are interesting. Keegan Bradley went with Tom Watson to Gleneagles on a scouting mission so he's obviously in pole position. Problem with that is that he traditionally struggles at the first two Play Off events; namely The Barclays and Deutsche Bank. So if Mahan, Snedeker ,Simpson or Watney + others (Haas potentially) go really well they could grab a spot above him. Stricker though likes New York/Massachusetts so expect a late change of role.

I think if kuch and duf pull out then Ryan Moore gets in automatically. If not he should be a pick as he is a solid player and has had a decent season.
He's got to pick Keegan, IMO.
Assuming no Woods, then for me there is not a stand out candidate, which might be why Woods gets the nod.
Watson said that if Stricker wins the PGA then he'll get a playing pick, obviously he didn't, but it opened the door for it as an option, if they need the injury cover.
Apparently if a player withdraws injured before the singles then they don't forfeit, the other Captain has to choose a player to bench and they get a half. The cynic says that might be a good reason to take Woods, Duf and Kuch - 3 guaranteed halves in the singles!! ;)
