Things arent going to plan

I got another 0.1 today, I didnt really play that badly fo most of the holes but a few iffy teeshots, a few encounters with trees and a couple of shots only just off line and I ended up with a handicap increase.

Sad to say the changes I took onboard after my lesson yesterday, were ditched after hitting my tee shot on the first into a bank to the left of the tee bed, it went 50yds straight and 10 yards right!

Its so easy for a bad shot to set the tone for the round sometimes ive found. You start thinking about every swing mechanical thought youve ever had and it just strangles your game. The best players can reset and move on from stuff like that but ive not managed it fully yet.

Is it possible to hit one shot left, straight and right ?

Your expectations are slightly different to some, including me Louise. I expect loads of 0.1's in a season, and the odd cut or two to compensate. You seemed to get very disappointed not to play to or beat your handicap every round. Don't be too hard on yourself.

I am with Rich on this one Louise. After having a great season last year, you might find that your handicap has levelled out a bit so you may get a few 0.1's but then when you have a good day and go 3 under your handicap you will lose more than the 0.1's you had gained so it will even itself out. On the other hand in a month or so you might pick up some momentum and knock some more shots from your handicap.

Yes, I know you are all correct, buts its just so frustrating. I dont actually beat myself up on the course, I laugh it off, but afterwards when I have had time o think about the round, then I get frustrated.

It's start of season do t expect cuts straight away
It will even itself out when you get a cut

Don't be to harsh on yourself

Just go out an play the game, swing changes are for the practice range / rounds they will creep into your game gradually. If you take too many swing thoughts out into a comp it will always end badly.

I thought I was ready to put my 1st card in for handicap last Sunday. Shot 49 on the front 9 with a lost ball and 2 penalty strokes and then had a complete meltdown on the back 9. It reminded me why I gave golf up 25 years ago, but now I'm a bit more mature and mellow I put it down to experience and look forward to a better round next time.

It didn't help that my playing partner wanted to sprint round, which made it difficult to settle after each bad shot.

Jubilee Cup in a few weeks so not the end of the world if you can lurk there for a few weeks, especially if I can join you

Don't force it. Just play your own game and don't go after a score.

Having now taken time to think about my round, I am now feeling a lot better about it. Apart from a few unlucky breaks, I only hit 4 really bad shots, all off the tee, I then proceed to compound the error by taking on very risky shots in an attempt to claw the hole back but instead just made it worse, I guess I should make sure I get the ball back onto the fairway, instead of trying to find small gaps through trees or taking on very risky carries.

louise, courses are still playing very tought at the minute. im shocked at everyone on here saying they are getting cuts already. there is always a few peeps who really are ready for big cuts by this time of the year. most other golfers dont hit full stride till later in the year.

i think ive had 1 or 2 really good rounds since last summer. im not worried in the slightest. whole different ball game in the sunshine
