To be honest the way the op described this incident has nothing to do with the way the comp was organised.
Refusing to let players through while you go back to the tee to play another ball is just plain arrogant.!
That imo needs addressing and committees need to sanction said players to protect the rest of the members.
Golf clubs need to step up and call this out.
One player saying the other three said “ not to call them through” that’s just a joke.
They should have teed off with the guy playing three off the tee as the other players were expecting a drive off the tee.
Some people are so selfish it’s pathetic, and a cloud on the sport

I would have teed off and made him wait until the our group was clear of them.

I agree totally. Put aside what action a committee might or might not take with the 3 refusers, the guy who walked back to the tee should be told quite clearly that he will have to wait until the held-up group have all teed off and played their second shots - no scope for argument or discussion. The education of the other 3 in the group in front should be undertaken by the Secretary or Manager - this need not be confrontational, just an explanation of their responsibilities.

I do agree except for the teeing off.
Tee off with him then all walk down together.
This is better for anyone behind.

That’s crazy, the 2 ball saw one of the 4 ball walking back 200 yards to the tee and asking to let them play through and to be told no the other 3 said not to.

The 2 ball should have just teed off and left the player on the tee and told him when they reach the other 3 they would have told them why they should have let them through earlier.

The op said the 2 ball were the last out in the competition, so if there were no one else behind I would have left him on the tee.

That dosnt mean there’s nobody behind .
If there that slow casual golfers behind may have caught them up.

Yes your point I said valid and normally that would be the correct thing to do but at the moment most places members only so I would still say leave him on the tee(y)

I still can't fathom why the 2 ball didn't just play through and left him on the tee no need to be nasty about it just explain to him the correct procedure.

I didn’t mean visitors ,other members who choose not to play in the comp.:)

I think clubs have been lazy on this as a couple of emails has not worked.
At ours it hasn’t anyway, a three ball in comps taking 4 : 15 mins is just the norm.

I feel sorry for the members of the 4 ball. Letting another group through is a massive slur against their masculinity, they all probably have tiny manhoods. They were quite right not to let the faster group through, just imagine the shame if they had done.

I suggest you join the committee. You will then find out that clubs have to take in a number of considerations before throwing out bans to people. A better way would be for comps to be better organised and the offenders spoken to.
Just curious - what sort of considerations ?

just a point I don`t claim to be a better player than them just that two has to be faster than four and their was no-one behind us to the be pressurising them.

If you have a starter, that person should have taken responsibility for ensuring the field didn’t finish 4 ball, 2 ball, 4 ball, 2 ball. At ours, if the starter tells people to move up/down to balance the groups, we don’t have an option to refuse.

The problem could have been resolved before any of the last three groups even started their rounds.
Agreed - the Course has a permanent Starter all day normally but not in December due Covid restrictions with staff furlonged, thus left up experienced Seniors to self start.

I can confirm the recipe makes for a very unsavoury cake...our first medal after lockdown last year was played as 4 balls to get more members playing - to see how it went. It went very badly. Later groups were taking way over 5 hrs and many (including my own) walked in after 13 holes.
This was a stableford !

Can't you just taser them as part of a 'new club initiative on slow play remedial action plan'?
Got a few at our place-and after going thro' the waiting on the tee bit/then asking if it would be ok to play thro/even skipping a couple of holes past them-we've came to a 'sort of arrangement' where they now move aside(and I'm carrying, they've got trollies)! Pleasantries are exchanged-honestly!!
AND i'm not racing round course-will even play 2 balls on some holes..

Never said they were going slow, just not as quick as the 2 ball ahead of them or as quick as the 2 ball they wouldn`t let through could have played.
I don`t care how long it takes anyone to play just as long they don`t force their pace on others when there are empty fairways ahead of them.

Out of all of the OP this is the one I dislike the most

At the 10th tee all were in the trees and after a fairly long wait One player appeared walking back some 200 yds-ish to the Tee to take S & D penalty,

I have had a couple of verbal head bangings with guys who do that. Totally unacceptable in my opinion. One guy got so irate because our 3 ball would only let him tee off until after we had all teed off (effectively becoming a four ball off the tee) that he stormed off the course.
