The gap from Championship to L1 is just as big. Rotherham Utd have a squad value of about £15-17 million so how can they compete with the clubs who still get premier league money?
The top 2 divisions are both split into 3 bands with the same teams at the top, middle and bottom most years.
I don't follow the lower divisions aside from enjoying Reading's plight with my work colleagues and golf club members, but isn't that the same between all the divisions. How big a jump is the conference to league 2???

Because we are told that by fans of the big 6!
Brighton must be on a blip, because without the points deduction they’d be level with us.

As I said, they had a foray in to Europe, then lost their best players to big 6 clubs, now rebuilding!

Wolves a few seasons back, Burnley, West ham last year, few of these clubs are consistently in Europe or there or there abouts.

How is it you want to see the league run instead ?

There are new rules looking to come in to curb the spending on all clubs

Even back to the 70’s and 80’s it was still only a handful competing for the big trophies

Then again in 90’s and then again in the 00’s

Even before money was a big factor it was about recruiting well and some clubs always having a big pull over some players

There has always been a level of hierarchy within English football and indeed European football

We can go down the lines of US sport

Same money for all clubs can be spent

The best players go to the worst clubs etc

If you edit that statement then that's what we have already and had for many years before. The new system stops other clubs breaking into that battle.

How many times have we seen a club win 6 out of the last 7 titles

Look at the level of points that clubs need to get now to try and get near City

And how many clubs have gone out of business over the last 10/15 years because they can’t afford to stay standing

I would love to see us back to the days of a Villa or Forest winning the title and then the European Cup

The title has largely been a closed shop between Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and City for the last 20 odd years (we will ignore the Leicester year). That closed shop wont change with the current system in place.

In terms of City, some years they have been outstanding, others years teams have left it slip. They have not been outstanding in all of those title wins.

No PL team has gone out of business so far.

The game is no longer a sport it’s a business and there is no chance the powers that be will go down the US Route.

The heirarchy in previous decades was done without financial restrictions and other teams could compete both in Leagues and Cups, domestic and European.

It’s all well and good bringing in rules that control spending etc, but it wasn’t a level playing field to begin within! How is a team like Brighton (just a random choice) meant to compete commercially off the field with Man Utd (one of the biggest clubs in the world)? But they are expected to comply! It’s daft, turn it on its head, why shouldn’t Man Utd, who built up this stature over decades, be allowed to spend what they want, they’ve earned their place at the top table and all the riches that come with it!

All teams are on some form of rebuild. More so these days with the powers players can exert to get a move. As someone that watched us get to a European final and beat some top teams like Juventus along the way then of course we want that again. That said I think if fans can see a side putting in an honest performance week in, week out, and perhaps a decent cup run as we had in the league cup this year then most will be happy as long as they can see progress and a club with a clear direction
You watched that Final nearly 15yrs ago and have yo-yo’d since, how long do us other Clubs have to keep looking back!

One other note, after reaching the European Final, you lost your manager to a big 6 Club, another example of Clubs losing what has got them some form of success.

Why is it just PL teams ? The issues filter down

Wimbledon used to be a prem team and look what happened there

United got to their position by building their club up - they earned their income , spent well , recruited well , and sorted out the commercial side - that was something other clubs could have build upon

It took us 20 years to do

Arsenal the same , Spurs have been up there

And why ignore the Leicester year

24 teams in total have won the league - just 24

What should change to make it not a closed shop

We’ll never see any curbs imposed on the Prem team unless it’s Europe wide. Why would the Prem, and the teams, impose restrictions when other clubs in the CL don’t have one hand tied behind their back.

Alternatively, the Prem imposes restrictions and the Prem teams tell them to get stuffed and push for a European Super League?

So what will happen if they remove all financial restrictions

What is it that people think will happen that will make it better ?

And some clubs will always been seen as bigger than others and players will always look to jump across

When was there never a hierarchy in the sport ?

If any other business was run with the debts that all the top clubs have they wouldn't be in business!

You could end FFP for starters. Make it how it used to be. That way the likes of Newcastle would keep building and not have to sell any of their top players this summer. Villa may or not be affected this season but they will have to be careful as well. At the moment teams can't build up year after year. They can make some progress and then have to stand still for a year or two.

The sport as with other sports is ruined by money

Some fans will be happy with what level their team is at now and enjoy their games , City fans won’t care because of the amount of trophies they have won with the money

Speaking to Luton fans they have loved their ride this season and just enjoyed it for what was

the new spending rules hopefully may make things a bit better

It’s always been so. Once upon a time there were no financial restrictions, and who was winning then?

Think about it from a different angle. There’s more than 100 exceptional players in the Prem, obviously some more than others and some who are only just being recognised at that level. The top table might not be challenged but the those chasing 4-6 could be any given team that is well managed and has a core of good players - not stars.

TBH, I can’t see it ever changing from that. But at the other end of the table the parachute payments are rewarding mediocrity by giving the relegated teams the chance to bring their mediocrity back into the Prem at the expense of good Championship teams that might, given the same finances, prove to be better run clubs/teams.

How will that make things better for the league with Newcastle being able to spend whatever they like ?

Would all the other clubs be ok with them hoovering up all the best talent from their clubs because they can offer them silly money ?

Guess it depends on how far back we go

70’s - Derby , Forest , Arsenal Liverpool
80’s - Villa , Arsenal , Liverpool , Everon
90’s - Leeds , Arsenal, Man Utd , Blackburn
00’s - Arsenal , Man Utd , Chelsea
10’s - Chelsea , Man Utd, Leicester, City
20’s - City , Liverpool

Can we see anyone winning for the coming years outside City ? 6 of the last 7 - don’t think that’s ever been done

Turn it on its head.
Your league position dictates what you can spend next season ( if you have it)
So top teams can spend less on a sliding scale.

If it’s all about money then better players will go to lower clubs.
This over years will even the sport up imo.
By making clubs run their buisness better

Won’t work unless it’s Europe wide.!
