I love the sledging when I played and when I watch it. If you've played a decent level (and I have) sledging adds that extra competitive spirit to it.

Most who indulge in it cannot take it when it comes back at them.

When my son was 14 and playing county Premier League a former first class player complained to the umpires when his sledges were met with a volley from my lad, who was battling at the time.

"He can't talk to me like that!"

Umpire's response, "Well you started it, grow up".
