Tending the flag

I never understand, well I guess I do really, why those wanting the flag out, out when it was already in, blame those wanting it in for hokey cokey. Those wanting it out are starting this process. Leave the flag alone, no hokey cokey.

If you want it out, accept others may want it in but always remember before complaining that taking the flag out is the starting point for your complaint.
This is the problem though! It’s a game of golf we play for fun, it shouldn’t be about complaining or looking to blame people for starting a process.

If you want the flag out, ask for it to be removed, if you want it back in, ask for it to be put back in, if you want it tended, ask for it to be attended.

Anyone getting upset over how other people want the flag when they are putting is pathetic.

Life really is too short to worry about such thing🤬

Why are you so triggered by this? 😜

So have the flag in at all times then 🤷‍♂️

I don’t care if someone wants it out or in or tended

But if the idea was to speed up play then it hasn’t in my experience

18 holes. Maybe amongst the 4 ball having the flag tended might happen 5-6 times. 5-6 X 20 seconds. We’re talking of, potentially, 2 minutes difference in a round. :ROFLMAO:

I have seen all cases of flag-in/flag-out described here.
Any delay in play is very little compared with the speed of play before and after the introduction of laser rangefinders.
Everyone has a choice with regards to use of rangefinders AND how the flag should be managed.
If one person's choice differs from your own choice - live with it - respect others' choices. That is what I do - this approach causes me to have no gripes or issues during play.

Next time I play I’m going to ask for the flag to be tended just to see the reaction from my playing partners 🤣
Good luck with that.

Refusing to attend the flag when requested to do so is contemptible.

"In or out, mate. Your choice. No one has the flag attended any more. Been like that for ages. Where have you been?"

That was said to me on the first hole a couple of years ago. I said nothing, took my putt with the flag in. I think the chap was a little angry that I chose not to discuss or argue with him.
And this was a "social" game?

But instead of wasting their time by getting them to tend they could be doing something else.

Or just be logical. With our group, theres a few who always putt with the flag in, so they always go first if theres other that want it out. That way, flag out once and flag in once. No time wasted, no rules broken, peace and harmony abounds......except of course on here.

I've said this a few times on different threads when this subject does the 6 monthly appearance ... The mistake they made to the rule change was leaving the option for attending. In or out would have got rid of the issue. If it's close close take it out if it's far enough away to want you to attend it then if it goes near and drops in the flag being in won't have made a difference.

Leaving that option in just caused all this what if situation.

But then it does baffle me when someone asks for it out then someone wants back in. Just why? Once it's out crack on. If it's left in crack on. It's not the Ryder cup

I love the bravado. If playing with Woods or Koepka would you call them a dick if they asked for the flag to be tended 🤣

Tbh , no one's asking me to tend anyway, only seems to happen in the world of GM and then I think 1 or 2 are just being contrary for the sake of it.

Thread locked to allow people to cool off a little.

Some posts deleted. I’ll unlock in 30 mins. Anyone that continues with the petty sniping will be warned.

As with everything in golf - providing it’s within the rules then people are allowed to do and as golfers then suspect we would follow standard good manners and etiquette

The flag can be in any position it wants as far as I’m concerned providing we aren’t holding up play and being respectful of all others within the playing group

Now that I'm back playing more at my old club in Harrogate......a crappy slow day on Friday. A 4 ball in front of our 4 ball just not moving very fast....although they did let a 2 ball and a single through. We finally gave up on 15...the fog rolled in worse and they just kind of disappeared and we couldn't be bothered. Would have ended up a 4 1/2 hour round which is a killer to me. This club is worse than the other ones I've been at for slow play.....and fixing ball marks.....and smoothing sand traps. Respectful play is in the eye of the beholder......some on here think 4.5 hrs is fine.

How many times have you repeated this in the 7 pages of this thread?
