Saturday Season Opener - Cancelled!

Yep.

The fact is, most analysts believe we need to close the country, now. But there is no political will to do this.

Medical analysts?

The problem is running a country is not one dimensional so decisions will be based on more than just minimising infection rate\death toll. From a leadership perspective, it may actually be better to have a higher death toll to maintain other things, such as the economy. From a human perspective, it may not be, but then again tanking the economy will likely cause deaths too. CLosing the country would also cause problems such as food and medicine shortages, which again may lead to more deaths, it's easy to criticise, but it's actually a tricky tightrope to be walked.

Good article and the point about maintaining the course if the Greenkeeping staff are in isolation and can’t maintain the course, although they have a help each other out policy for these particular courses.

Yeah let's be honest as well, greenkeepers will remember "who pays their wages" and will make more effort at their home club and possibly "pay lip service" only to another course.

Also clubs will need to ensure that should this come into effect then the greenkeepers will have to have business insurance to travel. Not all policies will allow you to travel to more than one place of work.

You better tell greenkeepers and clubs that just now then because it's common practice for clubs local to one another to share machinery etc

Do they tow machinery on the back of their personal cars?

?
Depends what it is mate some things will fit in the car, others will be in the back of the club pickup or on a trailer attached to it. East ren and Eastwood used to share stuff all the time including the odd bit of manpower

Just got emails from 2 places I play.

Don’t take the flag out, don’t rake the bunkers, stay 6 feet apart, one of them said don’t exchange scorecards.

Looks like my club was spot on and ahead of the game despite all the negative comments.

This virus has a long long way to go according to some of the "health experts".

E-mail from our club to say season opener still going ahead on 4th April. It's a pairs comp.

Changes though - no longer shotgun start. Asking people not to touch pins or use course furniture. (no mention of bunkers, but given it's not a handicap counter I'd like to think they will invoke lift and place in bunker).

And there will be no presentation after the event.

The bunkers will probably just be GUR, nearest point of relief

All competitions still going ahead but changed to roll ups rather than drawn groups and set tee times. Firm advice on handling flags and rakes but other than that the club trying to provide competition golf. The office will centrally enter players into PSI

All comps cancelled due to risk associated with swapping cards, inputting scores etc plus all bunkers are gur now as cannot rake. Even basic plans being put in place for volunteers to carry out basic course maintenance if there is a mass infection of green keeping staff especially if coupled with a course closure

This is the advice put out by the club on the advice of the county golf union

Competitions

The club is very keen to allow competitions to continue (with minimum impact) going forwards. The following procedures should be followed for competitions (and starting with the Men’s Weekend Stableford on Sunday 22nd March):

The competition will be roll-up only with no draw taking place. This method for running competitions will be reviewed after Sunday.

Players should be in groups of 3 or 4 players only.

Players MUST register at the pro shop their intention to play in the competition with the Pro, one of his assistants, Alison Hall or a nominated deputy who will be there to take down names of players entering the competition.

Entry into the competition on PSI (including taking entry fees from your club account) will be done for you.

BB&O have recommended that cards are signed by players and handed to the marker at the start of the round. The marker should then mark the card in the normal way, agree the final score with the player at the end of the round and put the card into the box which will be outside the pro shop.

All cards returned at the end of the competition will be processed by the office at the end of each competition.
