We are - 100%. We are going for tee times at the same time as other members.

And, rather obviously, we only get as many tee times as we can book…and so for instance this coming Saturday we have 36 wishing to join in, but if we could only book, say, 6 tee times in our broad timescales, then only 24 would be in the draw for these tee times.

That hasn’t happened yet, and so I’m not sure how we’d handle it. I’m pretty sure that the only ones who would probably be guaranteed a place in the draw would be the three organisers…none of the rest of us have a right to be in the rollup draw more than anyone else, so we would be in the draw according to first come first served in the order we signed up to be included.
Sometimes you'll likely just have to limit participation to suit the tee times you've obtained. That's where seniority in the group comes into play, at least for our groups. The coordinator(s) always have a good idea who is playing the next week - they ask the players the week previous, ie, ask this Saturday for next Saturday. It's just not show up on Saturday and expect to play. The coordinator(s) send out the draw two or three days in advance - if you're not on the draw, you'll need to find another game!

Well…Week 2 of our Saturday rollup having no allocated tee times and with a bit of organisation and negotiation with members not wishing to play in it, those wishing to play in the roll up have managed to book nine consecutive tee times from 10:18. So in fact we are quite a bit better off as we have 36 of us teeing off from an earlier and so better time than that we had previously been allocated by the club (11am) and able to get more of us playing (allocation was seven tee times).

What is good and heartening is that it seems that most club members looking to book a tee time when tee booking opens recognise the general time period that the Saturday rollup goes off and so are avoiding it. That might well change over the coming months. One group booked a tee time among us but they were quite happy to swap and move to an earlier time a rollup player had booked. Meant we could move forward and free up a 12:02 tee time that had been booked.
Good for you, but entitled once more! We got even more times because everyone knows “who we are”.
I imagine some of my friends would be booking a few times in “your slot” because we can.

Our society/roll up has more members than tee times even when we are allocated times. Fastest finger first for the slots, otherwise better luck next time

That’s not what I said and you know it. The other group were happy to move because they were open to the conversation and we were able to offer them an earlier time. They grabbed it…if they hadn’t then so be it.

And we did not get ‘more times’ this Saturday for any reason other than we booked the number of tee times we needed for the numbers that had signed up - and for this Saturday that happened to be more than what the club had previously allocated us. If we only had 24 sign up we would only have tried to book six tee times.

There is nothing at all in respect of expectation - we do not have a ‘slot’…we used to simply turn up at a time, make a draw for groups, put our balls in the chute, and then go off. It was the club that decided to more formalise us and give us a ‘slot’ when booking was introduced simply, on the basis that they recognised it was good for new members to be pointed to us at a specific time we met - and to get to know other members. Indeed the club identified the rollup in the club handbook. As a result I expect that almost everyone, if not actually everyone, in the club knows that there is a Saturday rollup that gathers for a 10am draw. Except now we might not, though we still try.

And if you had friends determined to book into the time slot the rollup aims for, then so be it. We’d shrug.

For us booking opens one week in advance, so we gather numbers wishing to take part using a WhatsApp group (which anyone in the club can ask to join) - closing the Friday evening prior to booking. Our organisers then work out how many tee times we need and sort out bookers for when booking opens on the Saturday evening. Obviously this limits our ability to accommodate latecomers or those who might have previously just turned up on the Saturday…and that’s disappointing, but so be it.

No, I don’t “know it”.
A members club should not be about groups controlling or expecting blocks of times at prime weekend times.
We are not ‘expecting’ anything - we’ve not been ‘given’ anything by the club either…and I’m not clear what you mean by ‘controlling’ blocks. We don’t have any control whatsoever over who might book a tee time. We simply go for tee times just as any member of the club does.
