Wrong tee penalty should be removed ?

Especially as, if you did it the other way round and accidentally played off the whites when it should have been level, you would have been fine if they really were just two club-lengths apart.
I did they say this to one of my mates, because it's a 9 hole, I measured them next time and they were just inside the 2 drivers length, although I usually tee-up up to a length behind the Markers, so might not have got away with it :ROFLMAO:

I did this last week in the November medal (Only my 3rd comp at the club), level par for the first 6 holes , and hit an arrow straight drive down the difficult 7th. As I put the club in the bag and turned round, I said to my playing partners, "I think I've just played off the wrong tee.", Both sets were together just 2 clubs in front of the other. I played 3 off the correct tee. To make matters worse I lost out on countback for the win.

It's was totally my fault, the guys I play with midweek always play from the Yellows, and sub consciously just went to the yellows. I'm happy with a 2 shot penalty, but I think with easing of some of the rules in recent years and the leniency of the rules around the teeing area (knocking the ball of the tee etc..) I do think this rule could be relaxed to a 1 shot penalty, ie re-hit counting 2
Was there more or less than 2 driver lengths between them? If it was less then no penalty.

Sorry , I didn't make it clear, That I teed off from the Yellows instead of the Whites so 3 off the tee, If the comp was from yellows and not whites I would have been ok just

Thread revived. Rule 6, played from wrong tee, not rectified. The players are DQd. Decision made.

But, from what I can see I have to put scores into the software (Handicap Master) to be able to generate a formal DQ notice. So its either put no scores in and sent a footnote that XYZ are DQd, or put their recorded scores in.

As this was a handicapped round should I add the General Penalty of 2 strokes to their score on that hole, or put their scores through without the penalty and hope they played well and their handicap comes down as a suitable punishment.

I think you can answer that yourself. You enter your true gross score for your handicap. Does your gross score include penalties accrued during your round? Of course it does.

GB&I WHS Guidance Appendix J states that:
  • a DQ due to playing from outside the teeing area not corrected, should be adjusted using net double bogey to produce an acceptable score.
  • a DQ due to playing from the wrong teeing area not corrected and resulting in the round not being played, makes the score not acceptable for handicapping.
"As a general principle, if a score would have been acceptable under Stableford or Maximum Score conditions it should, whenever possible, be acceptable for handicap purposes in Stroke Play following adjustment for any hole where the player has either failed to hole out, or failed to produce a score that satisfied the Rules of Golf."

Thanks for your responses. The part of Rule 6 which caused me the concern was that if the stroke off the tee did not count, and it was not rectified then would all subsequent strokes be void? I think the thrust of Appendix J is that they are void.

Thanks both.
