In a way, that is how it works already, unless you have a counting score dropping off.Do you remember way back when, on a Society Day or similar if you beat your handicap, you "put the card in" for review. Some clubs would cut you, some never did. All very unscientific, but the intention and behaviour was going in the right direction.
I like the idea of GP Cards only ever counting if reducing your handicap. Won't stop the vanity handicap crew, but the sombrero wearers would have one tool removed.![]()
Sorry but what’s a breakfast ball ?
We had this sent in an email yesterday. I have openly asked on our group fuddle page for There thoughts. Most are of the view that it’s a friendly roll up fuddle and are not impressed. The odd thing is that Homer posted this in Feb, so why are some clubs later than others re trying to implement it. Was there no official guideline launch date.

"In golf, "Roll-ups" refer to casual, informal play that many clubs offer, often with open tee times where players can join-in and play a round. Under the World Handicap System (WHS), these "roll-ups" are considered "organised competitions" that should have scores returned for handicap purposes" - WHS
- Roll up / Fuddles - PLEASE ENTER YOUR SCORES AS GENERAL PLAY

We had a whatsapp meltdown when I broached this. The club were very firm that the WHS guidelines were clear and general play cards should be submitted. I was nervous on week one what take up there would be but we got 100% (24/24) and have done since. I did over egg the pudding and told my lot they MUST (wording was should) submit GP cards. I think it was that subtle wording that stopped the arguing and a realisation that to play in the roll up they had to put cards in. Sometimes it is a case of doing what is necessary to get the majority on board and stragglers tend to follow for fear of not playing in the roll upWe had this sent in an email yesterday. Some Americans I have played with hit a 2nd ball off the 1st tee in lieu of a pre-round warm up. Choosing the best one!!![]()

And that I didn’t know, so why has it taken four years. This guidance has been in place since November 2020, when WHS was first implemented in GB&I.
It's simply taken 4 years for England Golf to be firmer in pressing clubs to enforce it.
It says “should” - not “must”And that I didn’t know, so why has it taken four years.![]()
Probably just a matter of priorities - the main focus has been trying to ensure clubs have a decent of the grasp the fundamentals. And that I didn’t know, so why has it taken four years.![]()
EG have been very clear that such scores must be submitted. It says “should” - not “must”
It’s always been known that if playing in an organised comp of sort under rules of golf etc etc you “should”
And clubs know they can’t “force” people to put cards in outside club comps
It can when roll ups are seen as organised groups. The wording is very clear and the club were equally as clear with their guidanceIt says “should” - not “must”

Presume that would include playing by the Rules of golf?Just to be clear, scores from roll ups must only be submitted if the format is acceptable - i.e. individual strokeplay.
Why would you do that as an organised group. The guidance is clear and you are going against what WHS is about. The club does have the power to try and persuade a group to change and it would have the power to suspend handicaps. It has already been discussed to death on here so why carry on arguing. All our groups had adopted GP cards and the world has kept turningAnd it’s just as easy to ignore it and add gimmies or play little matches
What are the club going to do - you pay money to be a member of the club and play on the course - they can’t dictate how you play your social golf
