In Mexico, on his first hole (the 10th) Ricky just shanked one badly out of bounds and immediately dropped another ball, but from shoulder height. Not realising his breach of the new rule, which would have allowed a redrop before playing a shot, he played the ball. His caddy didn’t realise either. One penalty stroke for the out of bounds ... but what for the incorrect drop? None of the players, or the commentary team, seem to know. Whatever the penalty, it’s a disastrous start. Not sure why one can’t have the option to drop from the knee or the shoulder.

Now she's telling everyone that if you accidentally tread on your ball there's no penalty....no qualification to make it a valid statement.

She was comparing it to accidentally dropping from the wrong height due to habit, where there is a penalty. However, I’m not sure that the two are directly comparable ... dropping from the wrong height is not an accident, it is a deliberate act, even if done erroneously due to habit.

She's said a lot of things in the last 15 minutes - none constructive.

And in case you don't realise it (which your wording here suggests) there is a penalty for accidentally treading on your ball except in specific situations.

Edit: just for clarification and closing off the point you raise 're deliberate - Ricky committed a procedural breach of 14.3 b (2) for his 1 stroke penalty. Doesn't matter whether you class it as accidental or deliberate (almost a philosophical question as why would you deliberately do something incorrectly for a penalty?🤔).

Is she referring to Rule 7.4? "There is no penalty if the player's ball is accidentally moved by the player, opponent or anyone else while trying to find or identify it."

This is a stupid rule!

Why penalise someone who isn’t gaining anything?

It’s just an unnecessary change to an already simple rule, to make life easier, for no real reason.
If you struggled before you’ll still struggle, because you’re clearly useless!

Could be, or she could be referring to any other specific exception - but they are exceptions. As an example, if Ricky had trodden on his ball after dropping it he's not excepted!

If she had just kept her mouth shut then no one would have noticed. Viewers no longer allowed to call in for rules infractions.

I wonder how quickly the R&A can amend a rule. While I understood their initial explanation for the change it is clear it’s not working. Shoulder to knee drop is the right way to go

Just seen Rory re-drop because he dropped from shoulder height first time.

Speeding up play beautifully 😅😂🤣
