Even though I have this problem of thinning - I can’t see how this board would be good value once you’ve mastered correct weight transition…surely it wouldn’t be used again?

It could be good value.
How hard would it be to screw a 1 inch square piece of wood to a piece of plywood, paint it and put a fancy logo on it.
Once you've mastered the technique you could sell on ebay for a huge profit.
