Just driving in London 🤬 (a necessary evil)… copped myself another speed awareness course for driving at 25mph along the Embankment. And I read tonight that the new Silvertown tunnel and Blackwall Tunnels are going to become toll roads.
And my Mrs can’t understand why I hate London.

An ongoing irritation split into several parts.
  • Firstly I was driving along the M6 and had just overtaken a lorry and was pulling in when I saw a guy on the hard shoulder waving. I looked around to see what it was and then there was a bang and I had driven over the ladder that had fallen off his van after being badly secured. I stopped to check on the hard shoulder, it was damaged but driveable so drove to the services and checked again. Still OK but called it in and carried on my journey.
  • On the way home that evening, I realised the offside main beam was pointing downwards and so all this was added to the report.
  • Car went in for repair. On arrival I reminded them about the headlight and, before it was returned, I asked if it had been checked. They said they would double check.
  • Drove down to see my kids and realised the main beam was still off. So decided to report it when I got home.
  • Whilst away, I was sat in an Asda car park in Woking waiting for my missus when there was an enormoys bang on the side of the car. The bloke in the rear seat had opened his door and slammed it into mine. I looked over my shoulder, saw he looked at it and walked away. I was out straight away and called him back. First he tried to deny it, then he was trying to offer me money, and then his missus came over and said it wasn't them. I got them to open their door, it went straight to the dent. Took photos and got their details. All this and they were Polish so with some language difficulties.
  • Got back and had to
    • Report the new damage to a car that had just been repaired.
    • Complain about the fact that the headlight hadn't been fixed.
  • It turned out the headlight instructions hadn't been passed on to the garage so they hadn't looked on it. I had to drive down to their garage again so they could check the alignment and, indeed, the main beam reflectors are knocked out of line. Repair company asked me to ring the insurance which I refused to do as this should have been on their first report to the insurance company so their error and not mine.
  • Took my car in today to get the dent in the door fixed from the second incident.
  • Still awaiting an update on the headlight.
Added to this..
  • My missus Kia Sportage (2019) which we bought a year ago had paint coming off the plastic chrome trim on the bumper.
  • We reported this when it went in for a service but their manager insisted it was stone chips and not bubbling. I disagreed as I know the difference between the two. We had a "firm" debate but in the end he wouldn't budge so I sent a letter to the dealer and to Kia.
  • The dealer called us in and took photos to send back to Kia.
  • Kia agreed it was bubbling and agreed to repair FOC.
  • Dropped off the car on Monday and on Monday evening got a video report of the car as if it was in for a service. I called and asked what about the paintwork. "What paintwork?". Another long discussion as what needed to be done had not been carried out, despite it being on the form I signed.
  • More heated phone calls with the dealer as her car was meant to be in Monday/Tuesday and my car was booked in Wednesday.
  • So the work had to be carried out Tuesday/Wednesday which meant my car had to be moved to Thursday.
  • Picked up her car and noticed a dent in the bumper about 1" long by 1/2" wide. Brought the garage out but they said that they had taken a video of the car before any work was carried out and it was already on there so it wasn't them. Must have been done in a car park.
It's taken up so much of my time trying to sort all this out.

Anyway enough of Tim’s obvious hookbait, genuine RI… received a notice of intended prosecution from the Met for driving at 25 mph along the Victoria Embankment… the main artery into central London from the East is a 20 mph zone! 😩
This is why I hate driving in cities I don't know. It's so easy to go down the wrong road, or break a local speed limit without realising it.

Seeing a hat I quite like on House of Fraser website, it's £7.50 but £5 delivery. Not sure I can bring myself to do that. 😆

I have that issue. If delivery is more than about 30% of the cost of the item and I do not wish to spend enough to bump it up to free delivery, I cannot bring myself to order it.

Even more annoying, with most shops doing a click and collect will be much cheaper, but with HoF that's also £5. Ridiculous. Bloody Mike Ashley.

A hat? Are you a city banker or something 🤣
We need a link to judge it seen as I embarrassed myself with my painting the other day 😬
It's just a simple beanie hat for this winter, I want a kind of loose one so that it fits over my Aftershokz headphones as well as my massive head.
https://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/brand/nevica/merino-beanie-sn41-901580#colcode=90158003 Pretty straightforward. It's amazing how few of this type hat you see in shops now though. It must not be in fashion - all I see is the ones that fold up at the front. Like this for example.

Click and collect also being a fairly useless option if you live in rural Lincolnshire like me and it is an hour in the car to the nearest major town, city of shopping center.

Isn't that a good thing to do in an emergency?
Probably go that the wrong way round. If it was forward to go forward in an emergency breaking situation or an accident you could be thrown forward against the lever possibly stopping it from being taken out of gear or throwing it in to park (with some cars) which would wreck the gearbox. Accelerate to hard (with some cars) with your hand on the lever and you could pull the lever backwards.

Mind these days you lots of automatics with electronic control have knobs which you rotate instead of levers.

Mine has a switch which is guarded but still with back to go forward, however park is a button and not part of the switch.

My daughter picked up ULEZ fine. She turned down the wrong road but as it was a one way system she had to enter the ULEZ zone to get back to the right road.
