LIV Golf

I believe he suggested going on the Japanese tour.
Imo he spot on,I’ve said it myself.
Hypocrites of the highest order imo.

You may not know - but if loads of players did move across to this tour, would they start getting more OWGR points due to the strength of field?

Say (off the top of my head)

Rory
JT
Rahm
Scottie
Speith
Fowler
Rose
Fleetwood
Hovland
Shauffle
Homa
Cantley
Fitzpatrick

The proof will be in the pudding, rather than taking what people say in forums as any guide. I'd imagine those that wish to express their anger take to forums to tell everyone else. They make that effort. For those that truly do not care, or only care slightly, they are not going to go onto forums and tell everyone else. Why bother?

9/11 and internal human rights issues are easy things to use when backing up an argument when you don't like something. Most of the same people are completely unaware of humans rights atrocities that occur in other areas of the world that we get no coverage of. And if there is a bit of coverage, won't pay too much attention to it.

I honestly don't think the source of money will have any significant impact on golf fans watching the PGAT. There may be a few who refuse to watch any sport linked to the Middle east in principle, but hardly many. There will be a lot of noise right now, and that may make sponsors nervous. But that noise will probably die down to a whimper once things settle down, and people know what the merger will look like. The bigger problem for the PGAT may be Jay Monahan, as I don't think he will ever come across as a trustworthy person in the future, no matter what he does.
Thank you. Saves me reading the rest of the essay.

The OWGR make it up as they go along don’t they?
All I can say is Golf is in a bad place atm
I’m sure over time it will all settle down and the rich will carry on getting richer.
It’s a shame because the Canadian tournament was a great spectacle.

Yes they would. All those players would have a significant individual rating which would strengthen the field rating on whichever tour they payed on.

You seem unable to see a distinction between people who left a "job" to take the Saudi money and those who chose to stay only to see their "employer" taken over leaving them with no viable alternative "employment".

The guys who turned Saudi down now find themselves in pretty much the same invidious position the LET players did with the Aramco series.

As much as I'd love to see them give it the two fingers and walk away.... they've got nowhere else to go.

Well as long as they accept the money reluctantly, and don't ask for anything to sweeten the deal...

I have a hard time believing anything Jamie Weir says - routinely chooses quotes selectively and presents things out of context to suit his opinion, and omits/ignores things that don't (much like several people here - on both sides).
If he told me water was wet, I'd have to check.

The interview is on Sky if you want to watch it

Also asked Garcia who said he didn’t know what’s going

I'd suggest it would be in the players interest to say they don't know what's going on... Stops them being hounded by the press for quotes/info if they just play dumb?

Or they don’t know what’s going to happen after 2023 season because it’s not been decided until any commercial merger will be completed and everything is in place to make a decision. Greg Norman having no involvement in it all speaks volumes

What I wonder about him is how much say he's ever really had... Or was he just a big named pawn to be the face of the opposition. I guess we'll never know, but I do hope golf looks better in a couple of years time.

IMO he knew that Saudi wanted a big foot into golf and that it wasn’t going to get into the PGAT so he went to them with an idea of a new golf tour and just needed the money for it

So they backed him thinking it would be nice and smooth with little issues and could fit alongside the other tours

But it turned out nothing like that and Greg Norman just opened the money tap for the players

Saudi could see its not going to get anywhere near sustainable so hence why they went to the table with the PGAT

It will have cost them a bit of money but they can soak it up

Are you ignoring the fact that Al_Rumayyan has been heavily involved in developing LIV Phil?
