Rory triggering the LiV community on X is properly amusing. They are a fragile bunch 🤣

Question is - will he go cap in hand to Greg Norman for a spot on LIV, or, will he bask in the glory of fantastic season on the PGAT playing against a small proportion of the worlds best players.

Does Rham now resign from both the PGAT and DP tour ?
or will he just pay his fines as he goes.

He has not had to ask for a release from DP tour before, but think they may see some easy money by fining him
when he starts playing LIV.

He said he was going to retain his PGAT and DPWT membership, and hopefully play in events in the future.

There are more players to come over as well, significant names from the PGAT - who simply cannot afford to not have these guys playing in some of their events.

I might suggest that this thread and the nature of the debate in it (not always convivial and respectful from the little I have actually bothered reading) plus what I read about what’s going on on X and at higher levels in the sport, demonstrates perfectly the value to the sport and growing the sport that LIV has brought and brings to the table.

And as far as I can see, that is little other than division, anger, controversy and an exposure of the avarice and over-inflated sense of self that are part of the mentality of many top players.

Is this not also true of LIV? Are Brooks or Rahm going to bask in the glory of a fantastic season on LIV playing against a small proportion of the worlds best players?

Possibly - although I suspect they'll both want to prove their worth by adding to their recent major wins - Brooks makes no secret that majors are his priority - I suspect Rahm feels the same way.

As far as I can see right now there are 9 spots available on Liv Teams for 2024
3 will be taken by the qualifiers in the Q School promotion event that is on You Tube right now

Rahms Team has 3 spots
We have all seen this movie before so Tony Finau is one so that leaves 2 more

Rippers
2 Spots

Iron Heads
1 spot (probably a qualifier)

High Flyers
1 Spot
Mickleson's team so I expect a PGAT defection here because he will want to do that.

Cleeks
2 Spots

So currently only 5 spots for possible PGAT defectors as it stands if big Tone is coming.

If another really big name is coming (captain) then they could create another team which would mean 9 spots would be available.
Or maybe the qualifiers are given their own team and each year the qualifying event is to earn a place on that team.

Going to be an interesting few weeks till 31st December

Don't forget there are two teams where the captains don't have equity. 60 players or 20x3 balls is considered the maximum number with the shotgun start - so 15 teams. There are currently 11 equity holding captains, which means there's space for 4 more. if LIV wanted to expand out to their maximum capacity. That opens up space for an additional 8 players.

I don't think they will at this stage - but that's the potential within the shotgun start format.

They know a deal is coming so they're jumping at the penalty free cash before it happens. Like rats in a sack.

There’ll still be a mess of a schedule to sort out even if a deals made you won’t see Rahm teeing it up for many PGA/DP Events this year and probably next

He’d have have to play

14 LiV events
4 majors

That leaves what realistically 3 or 4 events at best

The players - probably gets the nod from a lot of LiV lads
Scottish Open - links prep
Spanish Open -
and another

this situation would probably weirdly make The Players Championship a de facto 5th major something the tour had been pushing for years :D

Its a big signing for LiV but it won’t get many more viewers of the golf watching audience switching on whether they add viewers from a new audience will remain to be seen DJ BDC Smith and Brooks didn’t

Great that they have created a qualification pathway but for me should be more than 3 places up and down.

Looking like filling the field with PGAT stars Aint gonna be a problem.

Well actually that's probably not true, there isn't enough places on liv for the PGAT players that want to come across.

Looks like world no 12 and 21 are next to go onto Rahms team.

Don't feed the troll please 👍

Nerves all over the place at The Liv Promotion Event.

Looking like their could be a 4 man playoff for 3 spots on Liv.
Liv will be praying the Japanese lad qualifies for that part of the world.

I know most of you dont care and thats fine.
For those who want to watch the drama its below, remember this means the world to these guys.

EDIT - Samooj has just drained one across the green on 17 and has 2 putts on 18 to qualify.
Looking like 3 playing off for 2 spots, one would be Englishman Laurie Canter

I don't want to see a merger between LIV & the PGAT.
I'm quite happy for the 2 codes to stay completely separate & I'd also like to see the LIV players barred from all majors & the Ryder cup.
Others will come along & fill those gaps left by those who have gone to LIV.
Nobody is irreplaceable & LIV will never produce the prestige of the PGAT.
I don't watch LIV & I'd be quite happy for those players who have joined to be forgotten.
I'd clap this if it wasn't such a load of rubbish. Is this the 1970's again, nothing must change, no one can challenge anything, no competiting competition in any way. Maybe you want to go back to Men only clubs, no shorts, long white socks only, maybe no kids either. Blimey...
