I dunno, at a time when people on both sides are trying to find a truce and common ground in merger talks to bring the game back together is this wise ?

I really like this from Rory. If he's consistent and doesn't want any part of their sports washing then more power to him. I know Phil M said something similar but then rather hypocritically went and took their money anyway. If Rory sticks to his guns what not to admire?
We all have our own "personal rules" I for example wouldn't work for a cigarette company or an oil company. That's just me, you do what you like but I have my own "standards".

If he doesn’t want any part of the sport’s washing as you put it, what will he do if the merger goes through and the Saudis are the majority shareholder, or is that ok.

It's funny how people twist words and shift context to simply suit their own argument (speaking from both sides of the fence)

The quote simply said "If LIV was the last place on earth to play golf, I would retire". McIlroy simply is not a fan of LIV golf, perhaps for a multitude or reasons, such as legacy, history, competition, format, etc.

The quote was not "If the PGAT get investment from PIF, I will retire". However, it is clear that the potential merger has made him, and many more of the PGAT golfers uncomfortable. Which should come as no surprise to anyone, so they all seem to be pretty consistent on their views up to now.

It seems pretty clear. Rory McIlroy does not like LIV. That position tells us nothing about what he may or may not do if the PGAT get investment from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, China or whatever other country people do not like.

I’ve just answered the poster above, he specifically said Sport Washing, I’m not sure if Rory is even looking at it like that.
You could well be right with LIV, maybe just not his bag.

Does anyone actually know if he said that though? Seems to be a statement that has travelled very far in pro-LIV media. All I've seen was a LIV player has said to a journalist that he said it. But said LIV player didnt want to go on the record that it was him... Whereas all LIV players who are on record answering similar questions have gone 'No idea whats happening'
There's a lot of that from what I can see, especially on Twitter, the bots keep saying the same things, but there's very rarely a definitive source behind it.

When did McIlroy ever give sportswashing by the Saudi regime as his reason for "hating LIV"? I don't think that has even been hinted at - for the most part it would seem he simply doesn't like the format, how the pro game has been split (which he seems to attribute 100% of the blame to LIV because he truly believed no-one would leave the PGAT) and how some players have turned it into a battleground (again, he only sees this antagonism as coming from the LIV side).

The bots on Twitter are clearly in attack mode by aggressively going after anyone who disagrees with them. It’s quite clearly coordinated.

It’s the classic Trump move of saying over and over again that a thing is true and anyone that disagrees is lying or wrong.

1) Whats happened to Mel?

2) I think TBD is right, we need the PGAT but the golfing world also needs a global game/ showcase and like it or not - LIV goes around the globe with some big names in tow. Old or not.

I love the idea of both existing and smooth pathways for all golfers to play/ qualify for different events.

I did indeed get a ban for linking an article that contained swearing mate. It would appear that I crossed the line, but others can cross the line without repercussions - no idea why - just glad I don't play golf with the kind of folks that willingly choose to ignore the rules when it suits.

Anyway, went to Centurion last week with the youth. It was an awesome day out. (y)

Thats nice. And does show how even if there isnt really a TV audience for this type of a 4th tier tour, there is an appetite for audiences outside the USA to see the greats of the past live.

I mentioned it before in this thread, but it is an even greater practical opportunity now if the NewCo umbrella goes ahead - the champions tour players should be integrated into this type of a world tour. It would be 'competition lite' for golfers no longer able for the first division. But I would certainly go nonetheless to see the likes of Michelson, Langer, Westwood, Oosthuzen, Harrington, Singh, etc, just play even if the title at stake didnt really mean anything. I could still watch Els hit balls all day.

With no need now for LIV as originally constituted, this has to be a lifeline to reintegrate the rebels into the fold, and still build a wider touring golf circus, which is part of the Saudi sportswashing strategy. And would be a big boost for existing CHampions tour players as well. 20 events scattered across the globe maybe. No need for the teams fiasco - the still not extinct glow of fading stars would be sufficient attraction as long as it is 48 genuine names in the field. Keep the shotgun start, which would allow some face saving spin. The three rounds is already aligned to reduce the burden on semi-retired golfers. The ranking points issue is solved at a stroke - they have no need for the. Integrate 4 'senior' majors into its programme and they could even attract a TV audience and be showcase events.

You are way too hooked up on the 11% who are over the age of 45. People watching are far more interested in everyone else: Cam, DJ, Brooks, Bryson, Reed, Gooch, Niemann, Ancer, Oosthuizen, etc.

If I can just clarify.
Nobody is banned for swearing, you only get banned if you accumulate sufficient infraction points.

You posted a link which contained obvious swearing in the header, you got 8 points for this as you have previously had swearing infractions and are therefore deemed to know that this is a non sweary place.

You already had 8 live points from previous infractions, so you then had 16 points and THE SYSTEM gave you a 2 week ban, no mod made the decision to ban you.

Others who swear are normally given 3 points for a first offence, and then 8 if repeated, you need a minimum of 2 infractions to get a ban.

99% of members never come anywhere near an infraction, let alone a ban. So stop whining about being hard done by and play this game according to the forum rules as laid down by GM

You still have 16 live points, so ANY future infractions will trigger a longer ban

So does the system read and listen to the external links that contain the violations Phil?

One thing that was OBVIOUS at Centurion was the young crowd. People want to see superstars playing golf, or any sport for that matter - it's the reason Tiger is still such a big hit.

Is it too much to hope for a Kellfire length kind of ban? 🤞

No the decision to do you for swearing was done manually, the points allocation is as published in the forum rules in OOB

The system picks up when you have gone over the ban threshold

Can i reiterate, the swearing was blatantly obvious, this isn’t a case of opening the link, digging down to the bottom to find a sweary, it was staring you in the face without even opening the link

End of discussion
