Rumble in the Jungle. Foreman v. Ali. Two American Boxers

Financed by one dictator and held in Zaire to boost the popularity of another dictatorial regime.

Money talks....just as it did 50 years ago.
Probably doesn't matter too much in an individual sport, especially if the 2 boxers get paid bucketloads.

If its true what the PGA side are reporting at the moment then Yasir Al Ramuyyan has sold his players down the river.

Bias aside do we think that is true ?
Agree to Liv being wrapped up and his players only allowed partial access to PGA events.

Or is it to calm down the immediate backlash from the PGA players ?

So hard to see through the fog until a merger is actually announced with an agreement.

Yeah, I can definitely see a scenario where LIV is abandoned, the players are castigated and have huge difficulty getting back on their respective tours, even though some of them are multiple major winners and some of the biggest names in golf, and the PGAT reverts back to what it was, minus a bunch of talent - all while costing the PIF about 4 billion dollars....

PIF can write that off. They know LIV failed and they backed the wrong horse, so of course they know they have to take a financial hit. Thats business.
But there will be no castigation, and there will be a return of the prodigals. The LIV players will probably have to take a hit, and some of the capital injection in the wrapper will in some form channel to the players who didnt jump to level things out.

And how will that benefit the Saudis long term? They'll have disenfranchised more people than before they got involved - the game will have contracted in terms of who it reaches out to...
That's nothing like the vision that Al-Rumayyan was talking about on Tuesday - when he said "We will have LIV, and we will have the PGAT",

Guys you can't make a judgement on this until the merger is announced.

PGA saying one thing at the moment.

Liv officials saying their events continue and they can now bring in the big PGA names to teams for their events in the new schedule.

Nothing from the PIF yet and they hold all the cards because they all want their money..

All sides are going to put out media to pacify their players.

People are believing what they hope will happen based their position in the divide.

There is as much chance that the merger won't happen at all because of the DOJ investigation into the anti trust.

It's all guesswork right now until its officially agreed and that's a fact..

LIV might have reached out. But nobody grabbed it. Thats why the PIF had to massively change tack. So no disenfranchising. The world shrugged with indifference at the LIV proposition.

Ok buddy.
Even Rory has already said he'll be playing team golf somewhere in the not too distant future.
All the evidence that we have so far from Al Rumayyan downwards suggests you are gonna be wrong.... We'll see....

Well, some points are clear.

PIF is a minority investor in the wrapper company.
Monahan is CEO of the wrapper. Not Norman.

And the wrapper oversees coordination of all the tours for the financial profitability of the whole entity.

The players are still independent contractors with free will and choice.

The deal proves LIV did not succeed in becoming a serious rival to the PGAT. It did not tempt enough top players who turned down billions collectively.

Media, fans, sponsors, and investors, were not at all attracted to the LIV proposition of LOUDER, teams, 54 holes, shotguns.

Resistance to LIV is strong.
PIF now has access to the PGAT sphere. Accepted, traditional, with history and sporting credibility. Thus, acceptance from the civilised world. Thats both greenwashing, and, financial opportunity. LIV was a money pit that it no longer needs. It could have a life as a touring circus exhibition, which is the nearest thing to what it was. But the real golf will be the PGAT.

My post is not a prediction. It refers entirely to the past. That LIV failed. You do agree with that specific point ?
