Keith Pelly interview on golf channel was interesting regarding Liv.

The four majors are left on the board to make the OWGR decision on Liv golf.
Luke Donald is free to pick Liv Golfers for the Ryder Cup Team as long as they are DPWT members
If sanctioned players pay the 100k fine for playing at Centurion they retain their membership, it has to be paid by the 4th May

This Sentosa course for this weeks event looks fantastic.

Liv have some great courses on their schedule like The Grange last week, former PGA stop Mayakoba and Valdarama.
Say what you want about Trump the person but his golf courses are very good and Liv stops at 3 of them but they still have some weak ones in there as well.

Florida offers so many better than Orange County and the UK far better than Centurion.
You would assume that taking the UK event to a trump course would be easily done.

For some context PGA Event venues are consistanly very high quality.

Once went to Sentosa Island many years ago, I wasn't really into golf back then as I am now and had no idea there was a course of this nature there - it does look stunning though.
The players seem equally impressed by it, and it's hot and humid out there - so the conditions will be pretty draining.
Fabulous place is Singapore but the crowds will be smaller and reserved following on from last weeks event in Adelaide - so not sure how this fits with the "Golf But Louder" mantra of LIV. It doesn't look like there's any after party for the crowds either - so makes me wonder if this is an event that may be replaced in the calendar should a more popular location and venue come along?

Wouldn’t 72 hole stroke play have been the best format to fall online with OWGR. I’ve watched a few LIV events and am not at all excited by the “team” aspect. I just look at the individual leaderboard.

Absolutely it would. With a cut too.

And the team thing I think is getting better but has a while to go yet! The Players certainly seem to quite enjoy it though.

US College golf has a team element, The Ryder Cup, The Solheim Cup, The Presidents cup - it can work! I certainly think that by making the teams Geographically linked to areas is smart. Ripper is made up of a load of Aussies - obvious that the Aussies will back their boys etc.

I will say, last week was one of the better "team" weeks to watch, Rangegoats has a massive lead at one stage but despite having the overall individual winner they couldn't hold out 4 aces who got yet another win!

Whether you think LIV is good, farcical, or somewhere in between…the mocking of it evolving and not currently being already the finished article is a bit silly..

F1 - a ‘sport’ that’s been going for years in many iterations is constantly tinkering and introducing changes that are then discontinued the following year — (I’m not talking about technical aero regs) I read something for this upcoming year about some form of stand-alone sprint race aside from Qualifying, a sprint race that affects qualifying, double-points for the last race of the year. It’s all a bit 🤪 to me

This is in something that’s a mature ‘sport’….So for a golfing start-up to evolve - esp when it’s positioned itself outside the mainstream ecosystem / was rebuffed at the outset by Jay not taking any calls as it was seen as a challenge (whatever your take) is normal behaviour for a start-up

Awaits "what the heck has F1 got to do with golf" argument and whataboutary accusations 🤣

When you talk team golf and then use examples like Ryder Cup , Presidents Cup and Solheim Cup they are different dynamics - there are you talking about one off matchplay events between historical borders - US vs Europe , US Vs Rest of the World

It’s two or two pairs of golfers playing each other in a match trying to win a point for their team to win a trophy

It works because of the format , the rivalry and it happens every other year

Cant compare those events to golfers adding their scores together in a singles event to create a team score

The team element will work, but it takes time to get accustomed to it.
Over the weekend it was a key part of the interest as I watched the last couple of hours, particularly on the final day. I really wanted the Rangegoats to win, they've very quickly showed themselves to be a really likeable bunch of guys, but their lead was down to Talor Gooch performing so well in rounds 1 and 2. He couldn't repeat his form from the first two rounds which allowed The 4 Aces to overturn the lead to take the win on the final day - but it was so close up until the final few holes - could have swung in the space of minutes with 3 players scores out on the course counting - which is amplified by the simultaneous play from a shotgun start, something you don't have in the Ryder Cup for example.

If you don't watch it, you won't 'get' it, but for those of us that do, the team element is becoming a significant part of the attraction.

Well I can compare it and I have Phil :ROFLMAO:

LIV are clearly trying to create teams based around geographical locations in the aim to achieve something similar to these events.

I've not said LIV is better than any of the events, I've not Said its exactly the same either - Ive just simply said there are team aspects within all of these events and the crowds come.

Why cant LIV aim for something similar? (Note - AIM not ACHIEVE)

Teams will not work, even with infinite time. Teams require a common bond, and not a random grouping of players. For innately team sports, that forms due to the regional organisation. Its why people do supoirt nations, cities, football teams associated with an area. Four randomers is not a team. Thats four randomers with a Mickey Mouse name. The Ryder cup works because it has regionalised identities and rivalries that pre existed.
LIV teams could work if they went to nations. But that is probably to restrictive. An Aus, Eng, USA team could be assembled. But that wouldnt work for 12 teams. Some become a hodge podge, South America, or Korea+Japan. Or is multiple USA teams, who do you support, America A, or America B ? Again, too artificial. You are never going to generate a Nibblicks Till I Die culture.

I know I am, I'm sure I am! :ROFLMAO: Ive never heard a golf fan sing that about Europe either though? (We all know every American loves the USA to death though - but that's not just in golf)

They have tried to go to nations, actually look at the squads of players - they're all geographical now (with a few outliers here and there).

They can aim for anything but to bring in the likes of the Ryder Cup to try and make some sort of comparison is stretching it
If they had matchplay events between the teams that could well

Have singles events then every day 3 events have a team matchplay KO thing , pairs , just like your standard Golf KO

There are very different dynamics between matchplay and strokeplay - if they were doing 4bbb or foursomes , Greensome , maybe a scramble to make it as if it’s players playing as a team in a team event.

But it’s singles events with scores added together - the players can’t even read each others putts , give each other advice.

It’s just teams

So you're actually backing uo your claim that I'd be OK with people being beheaded.
It seems to me that a lot of what I hoped and claimed would or could happen with LIV has come to fruition in varying degrees of success, and you don't particuarly like it, but there is absolutely no need to come out with statements like the one above, which brings my credibility as a person into question.
You've massively overstepped the mark, and if you do want to take some advice from me for a change, I'd log off if I were you.

Hypothetically, what would Sauid/LIV/PIF have to do to make you rethink your dire support for its tour?

Had quite a few friends over for the LIV event in Adelaide and they are sure the people they were standing next too were cardboard cutouts, then when the supposedly hole in one went in (can't trust TV) the cardboard people jumped in the air and scared the LIVing day lights out of them, think Steven Spielberg is helping with the broadcast.

Let’s be honest - they could behead the guy with the lowest each event and you would say it works

If anyone else wrote that statement you’d be shouting from the rooftops about how wrong it is.
Im not sure where the joke is in beheading, maybe you can share it.
You don’t watch LIV golf yet use Twitter to form your opinion.
Maybe watch it then give a balanced opinion, theirs lots right and wrong in all tours.
The DP tour has probably got more to be worried about than LIV..

What does the DP tour have to do with the thread ?

Does watching it change an opinion on how it’s run , the funding , the players , the lack of sponsors , media rights , lack of viewers

It’s someone hitting a golf ball at a hole - the format people can form an opinion without watching it.
