Just picked myself up off the floor

Because once they've passed their Test they're let loose on their own....

And they're not "supposed" to have a more experienced driver in the car - the HAVE to have someone who is at least 21 AND has held a Full Licence for at least 3 years accompanying them.
Pedant mode….(I knew full well that you are LEGALLY required to have a more experienced driver accompanying learners)

So you're saying someone who could have only been behind the wheel for a few hours is less of a risk than someone who has just passed their test? (Not everyone learns with in a car with dual control)

Was with Admiral multicar until this year my quote went up significantly. Shopped around and went with Axa. Admiral couldn't get near them even with "multicar discount" (total bullocks...). Excess is a £100 less now too.
Loyalty most certainly does not pay as an insurance customer.

That is shocking but not that much of a surprise.
When I bought my new bike a few weeks back I phoned my insurance company to change the bike. No problem with that until she said it was going to cost £118 more for 4 months! When I asked why it was so high she explained that there was a £50 transfer charge and I would have to pay the difference for the WHOLE YEAR not for the four months remaining.
As you can imagine I wasn't impressed and said I wanted to cancel the policy. Yes no problem sir but you will have to pay for the rest of the year and £100 cancelation fee costing a total of £193 payable then. After I had calmed down enough to speak I said I would keep the policy with them for the rest of the policy but not to bother sending me a renewal as I wouldn't be staying with them once it's up.

Even without D/Cs, an experienced driver will see a hazard up to 2 seconds sooner than an inexperienced one. They will be able to give an instruction, maybe grab the wheel or handbrake....
Quite frankly, I'm amazed anyone has the balls to sit with a Learner in their first few hours without D/Cs....utter madness!

Saved myself nearly £100 this year by switching from Sainsburys to………… Sainsburys! Yup, quote came through, big jump from last year, went online, got another quote via a comparison company, about back to last year's money with the same firm. Go figure.

That really grinds my gears. Robbing loyal customers...

Me and HID only paid for 10 months cover last year after buying new cars, so when it was time to renew we feared the worst but it turned out that we only paid £26 more annually and that was with multicar through Admiral, so we stayed put. Others were only a couple of quid different which we would've probably paid in telephone calls changing.

I've just had the renewals in from ensure for the Mrs 2 year old Clio and my 2 year old Megane Coupe. Expected a rise as they were really cheap last year, but I got a real shock! £118 fully comp for the Mrs and £124 fully comp for me and both named on each other's policies. I'm not going to even bother trying to beat that, £242 for 2 cars is unbelievable!

In all seriousness now though, I make a point of switching insurance providers every year. Once they send me a quote, I take that as gospel. The last insurer I used (LV) sent me a renewal quote of just over £300. When I got a new provider to quote for less than £220 I rang them to cancel.. Quick as a shot "Oh, we can do it for that..." Not a chance mate. You sent me a quote and now you're saying you can do it for less... Sweet FA of a chance....

There is absolutely no loyalty from the insurance companies anymore. They rely on you being too lazy to change...
I totally agree with what you are doing there. If they can't be bothered to give you a good price straight away then they don't deserve your business. It's just lazy sales by price matching.

I work for a bank and I get staff rates on insurance. My renewal quote this year was £360 - 7 years no claims out of the window, it would appear.

I got a quote online for less than half the renewal price, called up my employer only to be told "There's nothing we can do. If you're on the employee rate, we can't go any lower."

Unbelievable.

i was with IbuyEco (Bisl Trade Name) for 400 for a year, at the end of the policy my NCB went up to 7 years, the renewal came in, £4000, phoned up, they couldnt tell me why!, incompetent morons, so dont the price comparison websites, Hughes came in the cheapest at 350, i went on their website, they said the policy was underwritten by AXA, so stopped what i was doing, called axa, BOOM £301, fully comp, Hughes plagued me with calls for months after lol

That's pretty much what I got off the guy on the phone, "Sorry mate, I've re-run the quote twice and it keeps coming out the same and I can't see why!"

Reading this thread with interest. When you are buying other services is price the only thing you factor in? It seems to be the only differentiator being used here.

We've just moved all the cars to Kwik-Save as they were not only far cheaper than our previous insurers who all put their prices up this years renewal, but they also offered far more cover and better services (legal, windscreen, less excess, replacement vehicle & more).

Can't understand some companies that are prepared to lose long-term customers in search of new customers at massive costs to themselves? I always concentrated on retention first in my business before looking for new business.

I've Googled Kwik-Save car insurance & nothing came up except for Kwik-Fit car insurance!
Can you post a link please mate.
Thanks,

Slime

I go through a local broker normally because I find it great to be able to deal with a person face to face and they generally match most quotes I've had.

Renewal this year came through at £390 fully comp with business use. I thought was a bit steep and found a few for around £280 with other companies and was going to go with them. Then I recieved a call from the broker. £307 to renew. I jumped on it. It's only £27 more but includes the brokers break down cover with home start etc and legal cover. The cheapest I could find with breakdown cover was £315.
