I know Moor Allerton in Leeds has dropped its joining fee's of a grand to get more members, I think because golf is more open and the current state if the ecconomy people can not justify handing over hunfreds if not thousands for nothing in return. It always has been something that would stop me joining a club in the future, how can I tell the wife that a grand has gone out of our account for golf membership and yet I still have to pay a hundred a month in subs?

I am happy overall to see clubs dropping joining fees as I have said before that I think they are outdated, some clubs where using it to keep "certain" people from joining but my point was that the interview should deal with that not a amount of cash.

I am playing Muni until I get my hcp to 10-15 and then I will think about joining a club.

Checked the noticeboard today and have to be fair the one with all our annual subscriptions on makes no mention of any joining fee so maybe Royal Ascot has relaxed their policy.

If so and anyone looking for a friendly club with a decent course in deepest darkest Berkshire let me know as I'm happy to propose them. I'd suggest phoning them though just to make sure they haven't just left the joining fee out of the notice

Gourock is a nice layout as well and I lost out on a house we put an offer in on in October last year, so stayed put in Lochwinnoch. I would have happily joined Gourock, cracking views and a superb 18th.

Tell Derek Watters I was asking for him and if you ever want to hook up for a smack then your more than welcome. When I say smack I mean golf wise, not the other smack as I know what you greenock boys are like!!!!!

I also do not like the idea of being tied to 1 club and having to think about get my monies worth for the fees i have paid. In Dorset we have about 15 clubs all within about an hours drive many who accept 2 for 1 vouchers which allows us to play good courses with out breaking the bank and lets us enjoy different courses as well.

Thanks for the offer Craw.

I extend the same invitation to yourself.

Derek Watters is a good guy.

I have played Lochwinnoch several times. It's in good condition but the layout isn't great with it being built on the side of a hill.I think you did the right thing by joining Ranfurly Castle.
