Another Seat, just like my example.
Very nice, I like it.
Not quite small or economical, in my view.
Just don't think I would fork out the extra £2,000, slightly lower mpg and higher insurance merely to shave off 1.3 secs off the acceleration 0-60.
But maybe the OP would, so well done.

Didn’t expect it would be.

A few have mentioned 2 series coupe. Great car and boot is wide at the opening so clubs fit in along with a trolley behind it. I went the other way from you and sold an M240 to buy a 1.5 skoda. Main reason because i only do 3k per year and rarely get to use the car on a nice blast, plus to take some money out and because i have to leave the car on the road. But it was a greta car that i had for 4 years from new. There are several 5yr old cars around the 20k mark. Selling stopped my mapping it to 450bhp for some extra fun. Having said that am impressed with the 57 plate Skoda and does everything i need. I usually go sensible to stupid on cars and this time have gone sensible twice in a row - e6s3 amg to m240 to Skoda! May have to revert to stupid next time o_O

She's happy I can still fit an Ikea wardrobe in it and I'm happy I can overtake lorries on the A69 with no issues.
It is the test of any car in this part of the world isn't it? Imagine if you didn't have the oommpphhh :eek:.

They could probably dual the remaining length for the cost of one station on the new Elizabeth line

The couple who won £180 million recently have said they are buying a Skoda Superb for the massive boot space.
My next-door-neighbours have a Superb Estate - they have a real millionaire's car, then.

£180million and they want a Skoda? They are decent cars, but treat yourself to a bit of luxury with that sort of money in the bank.

I will be interested to see your example of a small economical car with a 0-60 of under 9 seconds, under £20,000, less than 4 years old and under 30,000 miles.
I am not "having a go" merely looking for useful examples for the OP and myself as it happens. I am in a similar position to the OP.
I might like to change from my Skoda Rapid (that has a boot bigger than a Mondeo) at some point.
Aye it's not an easy spec to pull off, hence looking to see if anyone here had managed to pull it off. The Leon is absolutely a contendor.

No idea whether golf gear would fit in the boot, but a 3-year old Mini Cooper S is fairly nippy and under £20k. The cabin area is certainly more roomy than they used to be.
I've used a Countryman hybrid at work for long journeys and was very pleasantly surprised. It would make my shortlist in future.

My wife has a Mini, the boot was never designed with golf clubs, trolleys or frankly anything of size in mind. It's okay for a few shopping bags but that is all. Pop the seats down and all is well but just boot on its own is not up to golf.

What does "economical" mean for you? And do you do enough miles to really notice the difference between 40mpg and 30mpg say?

And what does S-O-A-S mean to you? Similar to your octavia in 0-60 and 30-70?

They're subjective terms which mean different things to different people, if you see what I mean.

A Mini Clubman has a big enough boot, and either or a Cooper S or JCW would fit the performance criterea.

This is exactly it.

What used to be seen as a really ooomph mobile was Harry Enfield's Escort 1.6 xr3i turbo nutter bastard.
That had 104 bhp and 0-60 in about 9.2 secs.
Nowadays a 1.0 Skoda Fabia or Seat Arona can pretty much match those figures for bhp and 0-60.
But show a 1-litre engine to many people and they immediately think "puny golf cart" which is absolute tosh.
What these cars offer is decent performance, good mpg and low insurance. With living costs rising at record rates, this has to be a major consideration.
I'm seriously considering the Seat Arona.
