As an aside- there is no such thing as gender.
I can't think of any reason why ladies can't play in the main club comps.
All tees should have the SSS calculated for each and away we go. This could also keep the older gents more competitive as they can struggle off the back tees.
Competitive players can play in whatever comps they want etc. Can't see many ladies wanting to play in the main comps but there will be some who are probably bored and want a bigger challenge etc.
It will be interesting how it works at Manchester, we have been drawn in the same group as them in the handicap shield for the 3rd year running so will be playing up there.

Another way to think of it is in physical terms.
Gender is socially instilled rather than biologically determined, but so is religion. These conceptual systems are still real phenomena that affect people’s lives, even if they have nothing to do with our essential biology. Another way to think of it is in physical terms. A building is a construct. But it exists. It doesn’t have to exist. But it does exist because people created the building. Likewise, gender doesn’t have to exist, but it does exist because people created gender.
Yes, this is another way to think about it. An entirely irrelevant way, but another way nonetheless.
We have a womens evening on our shot 9 hole course, they get about 20-30 ladies play in this. there was also a group of male members on the patio outside the back bar, as we had just played a 4 somes match against another club, so about 20 guys there. The ladies asked for the men to go inside as the women didn't want to be watched tee'ing off. no comments had been made and i don't think a single guy was even looking that way. in fact there were even a couple of the guys wives playing. The ladies all upped sticks and walked to the 2nd tee, which is out of sight.
.
Women doing stuff like this does us no favours.
I like playing with men (golf I mean!) and loads of men are quite happy to play golf with me.
But at my old club, we did have some mixed comps where a few men would only play if they were assured they wouldn't get drawn in a mixed group
Well, i would hope enlightened men sharing the patio would correct them.It was probably due to previous incidents where they did get abuse. I know I've been there on the patio and the comments made towards the ladies coming in were quite frankly horrendous, all by older males.

Same for me including a regular partner who plays off 3. However, I don't enjoy the first at ours if the balcony and patio are crowded with men. Had a society group in a couple of years ago and they slow clapped me when I messed up my driveI just put another ball in play and creamed that one straight down the middle.
All sounds very ungallant to me! I certainly wouldn't behave that way.Same for me including a regular partner who plays off 3. I played with an older chap the weekend off the whites that had a 1/4 length back swing, who honestly hit it no further than 100-150 yards per shot (driver/hybrid every shot) and he scored 32 points off a 16 hc. He just hit it very straight (as you do with a 50cm swing) and was always on the green for 3-4 shots and one/two putted. Goes to show it's not all about how far you can belt it!
