I've stuck my name down for a county cat 4 stableford comp, not sure of signup yet, so there's a chance if it's over subscribed that I may not get picked, they are going to do this by ballot.

Anyway if picked I'll be playing with strangers and as aforementioned the comp is stableford, the game also counts as a handicap qualifier, so I was wondering, if on any hole I cannot score, should I pick up? Or putt out?

I was going to ask my fellow competitors before teeing off as to what they would do, but thought I'd get the opinion of the forum.

yep pick up, its a stableford comp and handicap adjustments are based on stableford scoring so need to finish out any holes if you cant score (and shouldnt do to keep the pace of play moving)

Just make sure you can't score before lifting the ball. If pace of play is slow don't be afraid to have a putt or drop a ball down on the fairway. No point in standing around when you can have a hit.

Good luck and enjoy.

Yep, exactly this.

Although you should always give the score card a quick look before picking up as you will be double stroking on some holes depending on SI.

Good luck!!

Playing on my home course, so the 1st, 11th and 16th are the holes where I get 2 strokes, it was in writing this that I realised that being off 21 I get 2 shots on three holes.

The first is a had opening hole, the other 2 if played sensibly are good scoring holes.

If it is full h/c allowance you will get 2 strokes at 3 holes if your signature is correct . Therefore you could be 3 over par , and still get a point if the index is 1,2 or 3.
