buying a drink for your playing partners?

I stand my corner and take a very very dim view of anyone who doesn't stand theirs. If however someone was to say I'm skint so I'll buy my own then I take the view we have all been there at some point and still buy them one.

I don't drink and usually offer to drive those that do.... I'm very sociable anyway so don't mind if people want a drink.... Ill always buy a round even though I get a hammering for it from the lads because I never ask them if they'd like anything... I just go.....

Having said that even with strangers I'd always offer... Most that know me know I don't drink so don't expect me to buy a round but just out of manners I would.......

Its nice though when someone comes with the second round and I get a pot of tea or coffee..

If it is a comp I'll buy for my playing partners. We usually have a big roll up on a Saturday and so will normally only offer my partners a drink rather than a round for everyone if I'm going back up unless I've taken the money when it is expected that you get a drink in (or chips). If someone else offers a drink I'll always try and reciprocate or offer next time. Seems only fair.

When I'm out anyway, I like to get one of the first two rounds in. I don't like being a back-marker.

I used to always do this after a golf round also, but last year seemed to get stung a lot. Most time people only have 2 beers anyway, as we all drive these days.

I got a round in for 4-5 people at West lancs last year, everyone sodded off, then had to but my own second one......their names are noted......

Thats why if in a 4 ball, I'll just say to pair off, as everyone's about even then.

I've played in a loads of matchplay pairs games against an away team, at our gaff - I always insist on buying them a bevvy first.

If we play for money, winner buys first round. If not playing for money, loser buys drinks, so I suppose we are playing for drinks.

I aways offer to buy a drink for my playing partners, but on Saturday, got stopped by the current Captain asking me some questions on my way though the car park so i wasn't the first into the bar, got there and the two guyswe played had bought there own!!!!

Ive even had an instance where i got two guys i was drawn with in com a drink and they went and got their own when they had drunk that.

Do you buy a drink for the guys you have just played with or just buy your own?

Why would you only get your own drink? Golf is a social game, buy a round, if you can't afford to buy a round don't go in the bar !!

I haven't read the whole thread but my initial reaction was

Surely it's just politeness to buy a drink for your group? Not doing so is plain rude.

I always offer and will always put my hand in pocket even though I only stay for one. Although we are a fairly large club I figure what goes around comes around and I've had my fair share of drinks off others.
Even if I have to leave after one and I've taken a drink I will offer to reciprocate and buy a round for those staying.
Sounds like there are a few anti social clubs / folks around.... just add in life!
