We all think the same but it is a club decision. I would have thought they would have made his position very clear so it will be interesting to see if he turns up at the weekendPlayed in our fuddle today and the general consensus is, Why is he still at the club? He cheated,He stole money off fellow golfers, yet is still playing there. So what is the deterrent to stop others doing the same.Nothing.
So has he been through the club disciplinary procedures? Hard to believe there would be no sanctions such as a suspension or termination of membership. We all think the same but it is a club decision. I would expect a minimum of a temporary membership suspension. The more i read, the more i'm thinking its fictional. So has he been through the club disciplinary procedures? Hard to believe there would be no sanctions such as a suspension or termination of membership.
He has had his handicap withdrawn hasn’t he? This means he is effectively banned from competitions which is at least a sanction, albeit minor. So has he been through the club disciplinary procedures? Hard to believe there would be no sanctions such as a suspension or termination of membership.
His handicap has been terminated for a minimum of 3 months. So has he been through the club disciplinary procedures? Hard to believe there would be no sanctions such as a suspension or termination of membership.
You seemed keen to find out the details. Use your network of contacts and check it yourselfI would expect a minimum of a temporary membership suspension. The more i read, the more i'm thinking its fictional.
I hope he is. He's effectively stolen money from the roll up I run as well as his normal Saturday and Sunday group. I know 99% of them are seriously hacked off as are our lot and I think even though he had the skin of a rhino to show his face on Sunday he will be getting very short shrift from the main hardcore of weekend players. He may try his like in other roll ups but they are all aware as well so can't see them letting him play so bit by bit he'll be without a game and any friends and the penny might drop and he goes elsewhere of his own volitionMaybe the club are taking the attitude that to chuck him out just passes the problem to another club and they are better off suspending him from competitive play and re-educating him.
He's probably feeling pretty bad at the moment.
Thanks but it's not for me to check facts through my network of contacts. You've started a thread with few facts and seem to be on the periphery of things. I’m simply trying to understand the clubs position on this and the details more clearly, as some points seem a bit hard to believe. I will now bow out of this thread and will keep my thoughts to myself on this matter. You seemed keen to find out the details. Use your network of contacts and check it yourself
Yup in no way am I condoning his actions and I can understand why everyone is shunning him.I hope he is. It may be a case of not wanting to pass the mess to another club by forcing him out. They might hope peer group pressure will do that anyway and if he does stay he'll find it impossible to do anything golfing wise without the cheat tag and as someone that has always played matches and competitions he'll find that hard if people are refusing to play with him. I am wondering where this comes in a disciplinary sense. Is it gross misconduct? Assume so. I know we have had cheats caught before and they weren't chucked out so maybe they are thinking they have set precedents. I know the club won't release any information about any sanctions and I wouldn't expect them to (other than the handicap ban, which we all saw as his handicap is N/A on the club app) as its a personal matter same as a workplace incident. Anything would be conjecture and unless he told somebody directly I wouldn't take it at face valueYup in no way am I condoning his actions and I can understand why everyone is shunning him.
Just thinking why the club may allow him to stay rather than chucking him out and I'm not saying they shouldn't, just why they might not.

Seems reasonable from the clubs point of view, and if they've not previously expelled golfers for cheating they may feel that is their way of doing things. It may be a case of not wanting to pass the mess to another club by forcing him out. When I was talking to one of the guys yesterday. He told me of a game he played with the captain at a course in Essex. He was in a fourball and two guys were looking for a ball in the rough. The captain smacked a ball and it went into a bunker. The guy who was telling me went into his pre shot routine and heard another ball hit. He looked up and the captain had played another ball. He thought it odd as he knew the first ball was not lost. The other two had not seen anything as they were stilll looking for a ball.As they walked down the course they passed the ball in the bunker and the guy said to the captain “ that’s your ball”. The captain walked into the bunker, picked up the ball and said “ that’s not mine”. And walked to his second ball. He was gobsmacked. He told the guys in the 19th after, and a few had already got suspicions about his cheating. Within a couple of months he had left. No one would play in the roll ups with him. If it was a drawn comp people would pull out. He got the message he was not welcome and somehow he had made club captain.Maybe the club are taking the attitude that to chuck him out just passes the problem to another club and they are better off suspending him from competitive play and re-educating him.

This is the isssue. If the guy leaves our club and joins another locally word of mouth will soon travel and I am sure our GM will be in touch with them too. It is something that will be around his neck forever nowWhen I was talking to one of the guys yesterday. He told me of a game he played with the captain at a course in Essex. After he had gone a couple of players did a bit of digging because he had not been at the club for years and years. It transpired that he had left a couple of other clubs for similar reasons. Cheating.
