Unsure why all the hate for Shiels amongst golfers?

I'm happy for anyone to excel in the sport, be that playing, or any other 'branch' involved, be that as a pro, greenkeeper, retailer, whatever.

He's built the biggest YouTube channel in 12 or so years, even before YouTube was even a thing, at a rate which overshadows most of the others.

He will have budgeted for some immediate subscriber loss because he's a business man and a business man who's made a fantastic decision to grow and a massively different pace than he can from this point in time as 'just a YouTuber'.

Go on lad, smash it and sell out for millions 👏
 
The fact he’s signed with LIV and made these big changes and has all this big plans, isn’t an issue for me, good luck to him, fair play. I’ll probably watch some of them as well, as I do now.

My issue is with the big build up to it, going dark, teaser videos, logo blacked out etc. Just felt a bit ‘ooh, look at me, everyone will be as excited as I am about my career’. Well no, we don’t really care. Maybe it’s because I’m the sort of person who doesn’t celebrate their own success or even really like public praise, it just felt very big headed to me.
 
Wonder what his Liv contract is worth

It's thought to be in the region of 10 million pounds.

If true, that's life changing for him and his kids future.

Liv might be on a profit share from his Liv centric videos... Not that they need it..

Not trying to be facetious but 'Ooh, look at me' is the entire principle of YouTube.

It's not about his career, it's about the channel, which has close to 3m subscribers.

Don't listen to me though, as I'm one of the few who actually like Guy 🤣

Splitting hairs possibly, but the channel is a business now, supported by subscribers and sponsors. His career is a professional golfer.

He could sell the channel and he’d still have a career, unless he retires because LIV means the sale nets shed loads and he can retire…
 
Put it this way, so if it’s reported he's signed for £10m. Imagine I won £10m on the lottery. Didn’t tell anyone but just sent out some little teasers to friends and family for a few weeks ‘I’ve got some exciting news, stay tuned, it’s gonna be great’. And then finally announce I’ve won 10 million quid, I’m gonna buy a villa in Majorca, a Bentley, I’m gonna be rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous in Monaco, guys, it’s gonna be great.

I’d get told to go and, well swear words are banned on here, but I don’t think it would be all congratulations.

Now had I just let everyone know I’ve won the lottery, quietly and sensibly, that might make me look less of a whopper.

As I said earlier, I don’t think I fit in the modern world, it’s an age thing I’m sure. Enjoy the videos and all that, but not the razzmatazz.

Fair enough, but he’s not won anything. He’s gained a reward for 13 years work and doubt the money mentioned is a lump, but over a period of time.

And he already has decent homes and cars.

The teasers are aimed at the channel, not the man and here’s a load of old duffers chatting about it - so it worked…

He's narcissistic, once accused several tour players of being on drugs without having the balls to name them and, in my opinion as well as others, has cheated in the past.
Oh, and I don't need to be constantly reminded of how many airmiles he's done or how many push-ups he can do.
Yes, he's incredible for his age, I just don't need him to tell me over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and ..................... oh, you get the picture.
 
I see shiels has lost about 20k subs so far , I guess he wont be bothered. 1 was me, not in some protest I just realised I haven't watched anything of his in ages.

Apart from your subscriber pages being on your YouTube feed nothing really but the more followers someone has I guess the more they can do, get sponsored, get free endorsements etc so more videos are produced. Is my guess

You get notified when new videos come out.

Some channels aren't on Instagram, mine isn't on tiktok, Facebook or Instagram for instance. ;)

I use YouTube and subscriptions to basically make a on demand video library of channels that appeal to me.
Instead of watching love Island or whatever I will open youtube on the TV and I will be presented with videos that I'm likely to want to watch.
I obviously won't watch them all but it highlights newly posted videos by people that I subscribe to.
Subscribing to certain channels, the algorithm will learn what you like and suggest other channels similar so you can find other channels you might like.

I could really be doing with a cull of some channels that I don't really watch anymore.
